Kids were separated into different classrooms according to their activities and grades. The intercom announced that no one was leaving the building until someone confessed. Phones were confiscated, and they threatened to take away their chance of ever getting back in the following year. They knew the fear of an angry parent would make the paranoid kids squeal and point out the rotten apple. Each teacher was assigned a room with a list of questions they were to repeat until someone was willing to admit to the crimes done, upon this upstanding institution. The grass was brown and dead, heat from the sun hitting the earth at angles that start fires. Wind was blowing, but it felt hot and humid, with a thickness that sent claustrophobic feelings into the lungs of every individual. The Willits Charter School was doomed to have mile testing on the day when the effects of the fire reached the south side of town. Everyone who lived within 5 miles of town was inflamed from the inside with exhaustion and smoke sickness. Personally, my body was plagued with the effects of smoke, smaug and asthma.…

Hey guys it's Haley, and as you can tell by the title, I decided to make a part two of my high school terrors just because I went to Reagan last night. Last night, I attended the Reagan open house and you could say that it went well. Once I arrived, I noticed the abundant amount of other kids that would also be applying to Reagan. That made me a little nervous. We all sat in the auditorium as a couple Reagan seniors talked to us about the opportunities that Reagan offers and basically their Reagan story.…

Chris, I always find your writing so evocative and thought provolking. Similar to your experiences with religion, I was brought up Christian (Roman Catholic to be exact). From Kindergarten to sixth grade, I was educated in a Moravian church related school. Every Wednesday, all students at Moravian Academy were required to wear navy blazers and khaki pants to the church service which was so foreign to what I was used to in a Roman Catholic mass. Once I transfered to a Catholic day school closer to my house, monthly, manditory masses were held in my school's auditorium.…

As I was parked in that seat, going through everything I had done in the past week, nothing I could think of rendered punishable. The door to my right flew open, and out came my high school principal, Mr. White, standing in the doorway, arms crossed, his shadow stretched across the worn gray carpet. “Hello Tyler, please come have a seat in my office.” I walked in, slumped over, and sat in the chair on the other side of his desk. He was a graying, middle-aged man, nice smile, but a mean face.…
