Adopted at 13 months old from Zhanjiang, China, I was brought up as an American. Although I have grown up in the American culture, I still appreciate my Chinese heritage by celebrating various Chinese holidays. Although I have lived in the United States for almost all my life, I, the pickle and I both remember our roots.
To finish it off, I put BBQ sauce on top. BBQ sauce is a typical condiment on sandwiches, but it is normally used during cookouts with hamburgers and hotdogs. So, when placed on top of my sandwich, it enters a whole new setting. I relate to the BBQ sauce because while I may appear as just another student, when put in new environments, I bring new perspectives and light to the situation. At Pitt, I would not only bring my academic knowledge but also my humor, kindness, and out-of-the-box thoughts. BBQ sauce may be standard, but it and myself add new elements to wherever we are. While sharing attributes with a sandwich isn’t conventional, my Wawa sandwich and I are, essentially, one and the same. We both are made up of various characteristics and fundamentals. However, when all our different pieces come together, we make one unique sandwich and

I come from a poor family. I never had brand-name shoes or video games, or even a Lisa Frank binder and stickers like my friends at school, but I always had plenty of food in the fridge at home. It never seemed odd to me that she went to the grocery store one time a month and stocked up on milk, sugar, lunchmeat, chicken legs, hamburger meat, and most importantly, coffee.…
