“Whatever you are be a good one!” - Abraham Lincoln. My Michigan Hero has been there since day one. He does anything imaginable. In my eyes can carry the weight of the world. He’s hands down one of the most amazing people i’ve known my whole entire life.…
Music veteran Clive Davis received the Vanguard Award at the NAACP Image Awards last night. The award recognizes work that contributes to raising awareness of racial and social issues. Davis has played a major role in developing the careers of Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston, Alicia Keys, TLC, Jennifer Hudson (http://fdrmx.com/jennifer-hudson-excited-broadway-debut/), and other recording artists. Davis accepted his Vanguard Award, and made a very powerful and compelling speech. The music executive said that he realized early in his career that African-American R&B artists were not treated fairly in the music business, and they were suffering financially and missing out on career opportunities.…
Martin Luther King Jr. Once said ,"Our loyalties must transcend our race ,our tribe ,our lass , and our nation; and this means we must develop a world perspective. Everyone in due time, if not already, their perspective has changed. The day I witnessed my aunt graduate and become a Chiropractor after all the time she spend trying to become a dentist and decide to change paths. She's always wanted to become a dentist but then deciding she wasn't very much interested in pursuing down the road to becoming one.…
“A mind that is stretched by a new experience can never go back to its old dimensions.” Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. I had always been afraid to try new things, yet when I did all I wanted to do was to experience more of them. For me, leaning how to pitch was one of the best experiences I have ever tried. I took something which I thought was going to be terrifying and turned it into a wonderful achievement of mine.…
Have you ever been in a scary situation that could have or did end badly? Something you wasn't expecting to happen? Perhaps maybe a wreck where you seen your life flash before you? I myself have it was a pretty scary experience almost going straight into the lake. i know i haven't been the only teenager in one of these scary situations on the news there was an article about this 16 year old boy who was kinda in the same predicament as i was.…
What brought me to George Brown College is my dreams. First of all, I never thought of being a Computer Programmer in the future. When I was a child I always dreamt of being a Police officer, so that I can save and catch all the criminals in the world, but as I grew up and reach high school level my way of thinking changed. My desire of being a police officer disinterested me when I started living alone back in my third year of high school, I always feel lonely that every night I wouldn't sleep without crying. My aunt is coming home from work every weekend, so most of my weekdays after school I spend it at home alone and the only thing I have is my computer.…
When I walked into Havre Middle School, I really didn’t want to be here. I wasn’t expecting to have seven different classes. I liked only having one big class a day. This is why, I don’t like school anymore. I grew a lot in the last three years of middle school.…
If a politician's autobiography is a depiction of his / hers the foreseeing mind and extraordinary political life, if an abolitionist's autobiography is a personal recountal of their generosity and fraternity in addition to his / hers advanced thinking, then my personal narrative essay would be words and phrases that tells what kind of person I am, no matter this thing would make me embarrassed or not. There are two major phases of my life after I have consciousness and basic cognition to the world. The first phase is called "the era of ignorance and blindness". Like most children, I neither have the intelligence to solve problems quickly and precisely without assistance, nor being patient enough to acquire the ways to be erudite.…
H. Jackson Brown, Jr. once said, “Love is when the other person’s happiness is more important than your own.” When I was seven years old, I watched my mom and dad argue in the middle of a parking lot. The next morning, I discovered my dad’s belongings and car were gone. I did not realize this at the time, but my parents separated that day. Through their separation, I learned that I do not need my dad, his happiness was not more important than mine, and that he did not love me.…
An elder black man let me in to his house. He had his older daughter visiting him. He traded one Cigar for the black scarf an ex boyfriend gave me for Charismas. He also traded me a Cincinnati Reds Baseball Card for The 80’s Greatest Rock Hits Cassette that was my favorite and only tape when I was young.…
I have lived a blessed life filled with many great days. I have several of these days that particularly stick out in my mind such as the day my brother was born, the first day of my seventh grade play, the evening when I graduated, and the birth of my niece at four in the morning, but the day I hold above all of these was the day I spent with my extended Sanders family at the Great Wolf Lodge in Traverse City. The first reason why I treasure this day exceedingly much is that it was spent with a family that I have never gotten to see regularly. The Sanders family is heavily involved in Christian ministry.…
“A handful of moments I wished I could change, but I was carried away,” are the lyrics that remind a lot about myself. Growing up, and even about two years ago, I was insanely shy and did not talk much around people, friends, or family. The way I talked to people was in a timid, soft spoken way, which looking back, was awfully embarrassing. My friends and family would laugh at me because I could not talk well, and when I did talk, they acted as if I were a baby who just said its first words. With all of that nonsense going on, their idiotic response kind of made me not want to say anything anymore.…
It took one breath for my childhood to end. My childhood died with Eric Garner as he pleaded for his life. It wasn’t until the day, I heard about a trending video of the murder of Eric Garner. The words he shouted still haunts me to this day, constantly going in the background “I can’t breathe”. His death made everything that I had experienced become so real.…
There are little things that I have regretted doing through my years of growing up but there…
There in high school you have many memories, you start your year off as a freshman, you begin to have numerous memories throughout the year, you have your ups and downs and your start thinking to yourself that your can 't do it, you don’t understand anything that everyone else understands. My freshman year in high school didn 't go so well then I thought it was going to. My grades slowly when down the drain, I didn 't care what my grades were until I realized if I didn 't get my act together I would be spending my whole summer vacation in summer school because I didn 't care what my grades were. In high school, my grades weren’t as the best than other individuals. Throughout my high school years, I had progressed.…
