Personal Narrative: Walking Through The Doors Of High School

Decent Essays
Walking through the doors of high school was an adrenaline rush. Sitting in my first class with individuals of which I didn’t want to talk to, they were just school ‘friends’. The year progressed on, and homework started coming in flocks at a time. I never knew how to prepare myself for high school, but it wasn’t as awful as people that prepared me said it was. As the year came to a wrap I was ready and eager for the next. Throughout the year I gained techniques on how to get my homework done effectively and on time. Sophomore year came and it wasn’t quite the rude awakening, yet. I was in the complacency stage; I had moved from excitement of freshman year. I learned to care about my grades, because there would be consequences otherwise. Learning faster and understanding the criteria better made me not have an issue with doing my homework. …show more content…
Things started to take a twist with my attitude towards school, though. Junior year hit me hard, school work thrown left and right. Working lunch was not a fun place to be, just sitting in a classroom doing my late work while everyone is enjoying lunch with friends. I moved from complacency to detestation, ready to be DONE! Although this change occurred, I did not give up in school. My maturity became higher, I began to recognize how immature some people in my school were. I also learned that complaining will not help, that I just needed to get done. Senioritis is real, and being in the detestation stage makes it ten times worse. Freshman through senior year felt like an eternity, but making it through over half of it so far has given me motivation to finish it all

Looking back on it, on how I got to where I am. I don't know how i did it, when you run into something ,with the power to knock you down- you get back up! I've considered myself a sort of mellow guy, but I can be very intense. It's funny because you can't tell by looking at me. Most people say they can't read me, but I think i am a fairly simple guy.…

The hardest thing I’ve ever went through? Let me take you back to almost three years ago to a very cold Thursday morning in January. I was sitting in history class when suddenly something very strange happened; the announcement speakers came on. To most people it would seem like it was a very typical day to day event to listen to announcements; but at my school announcements were rarely ever said. My classroom got completely silent; to the point where you could have heard a pin drop.…

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. The habit of straying from the topic or theme could cause me to fail not only papers in English but my other courses as well. I personally had a hard time with English my first semester of college. In High school I was always at the top of my class and my teachers would tell me how great of a writer I was.…

Before high school, I always thought I was an average student, but when I transitioned into high school, people started to point out that I had potential. I began to work harder than I had ever before and I began to accelerate in every course. This never took a toll on me till the tenth grade, when my mental health started degrading. Anxiety was my first foe. During the beginning of the tenth grade, I had set high expectations for myself and it began to affect my life greatly For instance, after finishing the test, I would think about just one specific question that I thought I completed wrong.…

The semester before my freshman year I applied to an early college high school; I knew that I was going to have more work than if I had went to the traditional high school, but I knew I could do it. At first I was doing well, but as time went on the work became more challenging and frequent eventually my grades fell and took my pride with it. I wanted to transfer to the traditional high school in my neighborhood, but changed my mind after a talk with one of my professors. She helped me to recognize that if I quit not only would I be throwing away the work that I did do, but I’d also be preventing myself from seeing what work I could do. I took that seed of information and turned it into a tree of motivation.…

For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

The rest of the year was great to me, I finally saw the rainbow. I gained many new friends and I was/am doing fairly well in my classes. I overcame an obstacle of mine that was really large, and I am proud of myself for doing so. I finally got to see what it looks like when the clouds part. I went from being a stress mess to a straight success (maybe not success yet, but soon).…

Track and field has been the highlight of my high school life. The social aspect, the large assortment of events from which to choose, and the people I met are things I will always treasure. I especially loved the fact that there was always a place for everyone. If you weren’t too quick, then discus was your event. If you could build up quick bursts of speed, long and triple jumps suited you.…

High school changes people. They express themselves, become opinionated, and they start to look at the world differently as they experience things they have never encountered before. A wise Oliver Wendell Holmes said, “Man’s mind stretched to a new idea never goes back to its original dimensions.” This quote is an excellent way to describe my experience in high school.…

I remember my days in high school like it was yesterday. My freshman year I didn’t really know anyone at my school because I was new to the area. Once the school year got started I began to make friends and to be known around the school. So as most people say now I look like a basketball player, back in my younger days I used to play all sports like basketball, football, and baseball. So I had decided to try out for the basketball team.…

In his essay “Us and them,” David Sedaris describes his life as a child and how he ended up changing himself after realizing how disrespectful his behaviors were. While the boy is eating all of his candy so the neighbors do not get any, his mother barges in and screams “You should just look at yourself. I mean really look at yourself,” (Sedaris, ###) which prompted David to see how wrong he truly was. Much like the way David was acting in his essay when he was younger, I also had a time earlier on where I was harming myself due to my actions. During my middle school years, I was carefree.…
