Personal Narrative: Waking Up

Improved Essays
“Beep Beep Beep!” My alarm usually screams at me to wake me from my usual unforgiving short bedtime hours, but not today. Today, waking up without the assistance of that cringe worthy noise, with eyes still heavy, I reached my arm out from under the cozy blankets and switched the alarm button to off, as it was no longer needed. Bringing my arm back into my side, with my eyes still closed I laid there wondering why this morning I did not have to be shaken back to life. I easily narrowed it down to the strange dream I had just had probably moments before waking up. I struggled to try to remember as many details as possible before it all disappeared. Dreams had a tendency of doing that. This dream in particular brought me, first, back to when I was younger. Back in high school or college. …show more content…
It was this boy, the same age as me at the time. He was slightly taller than me, well maybe more than slightly, it all was a little fuzzy, but the more I thought about it, the clearer the details became. He had soft hazel eyes and short brown hair but long enough that if you tried, you could still mess it up. The dream seemed to take place in many different places. The first place I could remember is walking along a beach, the cool water was splashing up against my feet as the orange sun was setting in the distance, the boy walking along beside me with my hand in his, wearing a suit with a dark blue bow tie. Wondering why he was all dressed up, I looked down to see I was wearing a navy blue dress to match. It reminded me a lot of the prom dress I wore in 12th grade. We both looked at each other and smiled as music started to play. I cannot make out what song, but he took my hand and we danced. He twirled me around and around as the breeze gently blew through my hair and the cool sand swirled beneath my toes. Now that I think about it, it really did not make any sense, but then again every dream is like

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

The dream appears to fit in the prospect that the dream had no true meaning at all. What dream theory would the dream best fall under? The dream theory my dream would fall under is the activation-synthesis theory which suggests dreams can be simply signals from the pons of the brain with no true meaning behind them and the cortex trying to interpret with the information it has at its disposal.…

It is the morning of July 4th, 2008: I groan as my mother gently whispers, “teneshi yene mar (Get up honey)”. Struggling I open my eyes and notice the trembling cabin, I turn to my mother with a look of concern and she reaches out her hand and squeezes my own looking up at me, “we are going to be okay Mar”. A couple of moments later our plane has landed, we gather up our belongings and make our way towards the exit filled with people attached to their screens and MP3 players. The airport is filled with an undercurrent of anticipation, impatience, and boredom; bodies scramble back and forth from one gate to another. My mother, attempting to balance three children, clasps my hand, holds my little brother to her waist and calls back to my older…

In order to understand what dreams are, we must be able to understand how they occur while we are sleeping, the historical viewpoint of them, as well as the importance of their existence and symbolism. III. (Memorable Closing) John Lennon once said, “I’m a dreamer, but I’m not the only one,” and indeed he wasn’t. Unconscious Mind Meaning

    • 2 Pages

Dreams about the person you love are very clear, even though most dreams are not comprehensible to your conscience. The unconscious mind that produces your dreams uses a symbolic language in order to show you what is happening inside you and many things more. Why is this language so strange? Because you have inside you a terrible enemy: your primitive, wild side, that didn't evolve like your human side. In other words, the same way that you are a primate in many ways and you have an animal body, you have also an animal conscience.…

I will have to take extra time on homework to still have enough sleep. One of the dreams I had last week started off like I was in this strange unknown neighborhood it was so silent almost like as if everyone was dead , it was during the evening, the pinkish orange puffy clouds setting above the mountains as the sun slowly hides away and this little blond boy with a blue and white stripped shirt and blue shorts and he had no shoes on,the little boy looked pale, sick he had black in the white part of his eyes and the corners of his mouth were green with bumps all around, I cringed at the sight of his face. Then he told me to follow him inside this weirdly shaped house, gently tugging me across the street. As I opened the metal screen door and looked in front of me to see if the blond boy was still there but he wasn’t, he disappeared in thin air. As I walked in the house, it had a strange yet addicting scent, it was hard to see of how dark it was inside but there was a little shine of light peeking through a curtain.…

In the dream, we all came out unscathed, prancing to feel-good music and hindered by nothing but a good story between the three of us. Then I woke up, and reality hit. What reality told me was that I was much more out-of-shape than I would have liked to believe, that I ditched my best friend in the mountains of Colorado, and that I still had two more grueling days of physical pain. All of these thoughts poured in before I had even left the tent.…
