Personal Narrative: Waking Up In High School

Improved Essays
I wake up to the sound of my alarm on my phone ringing. I consider myself a morning person, as getting up is always pretty easy. I suppose this is because I know if I don't get up and get to my classes, I'll fail. I didn't used to be a morning person until I almost failed eighth grade, so it made sense. Even though it was Monday, I was still up on time. I know most people have trouble getting up on Mondays in particular, but not me. I had picked my outfit the night before, so showering and getting dressed was a quick process. I then head down the hall, and see my six year old sister Marie having trouble deciding what to wear in her room. I walk in, and ask her,"Need some help?" She nods, and so I pick out jeans a shirt for her. She was quite …show more content…
I had taken a lot of pictures over the years, and I wanted to make sure I picked the perfect one. After all, what picture I selected was what determined whether I won or not. In second period, the teacher has to call my name twice, just to get my attention. I tried to pay attention, but I just couldn't. In third period it was worse, as the teacher had to get my attention every five minutes, almost. I started to stress out about the contest, but before I could focus too much on it, the bell rang. Oh good, it was lunch time! I knew my friends could help me decide what picture to use, so of course I found them as quick as I could. Just as I had hoped, my friends were quick to reassure me I had nothing to worry about. Ellie did the most reassuring, and I knew that was most likely because she wanted to be a writer when she grew up. So, she most likely knew how I felt. At least, I hoped. It would be nice to have someone who knew what I was going through. We all ate together, and by the end of lunch, I felt much better about the whole contest thing. I would find the right picture, I just had to be patient. The rest of my classes were ones I shared with my friends. So, getting through the rest of the day wouldn't be difficult. We went to our last couple classes, and not once did I think about the contest. Chloe and Ellie had to go to their homes to do homework, but the rest of the group …show more content…
We all had homework to do, and nothing would get finished if they stayed over to do it. Once they all were gone, I decided to start my homework. There weren't too many assignments, just some math and US government. Much to my surprise though, I didn't finish until almost two hours later. Wow, maybe it was more homework than I thought.. My notes were also a bit prettier than they needed to be, so that most likely didn't help. Once I finish my homework, I decide to check on the twins to see if they needed any help. I checked on Sam first, and discovered he needed help with some math. It takes me about half an hour to explain his homework to him, and help him with the problems he had left. Then I checked on Marie, and much to my relief, she only needed me to listen to her read a chapter in her book. This takes about ten minutes. When she's done reading, I make sure to tell her how much her reading has improved since last week. This makes her proud of herself, and she explains that she had done some reading over the weekend. I nod, and tell her to keep reading before leaving the room. Then I head to the kitchen, and see that dinner is on the table. I go and get the twins, then we all sit down and eat. During dinner, I explain to my parents and the twins about the contest. They all seem to be pretty glad that I'm entering it, and they all offer to help me select a picture. I thank them for offering, and tell them I need to shower

For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

I had taken some dance classes back in boston. “Hey City Boy” I full swing in the middle og my dance when a gruff voice startled me and made me drop the hay the voice laughed “Damn anything’ll scare a city boy won’t it,” he guffawed, he was shirtless as usual wearing wrangler jeans and a camouflage hat that said “mossy oak” on it and his tattered brown leather boots, dumb redneck.…
