My life began to spiral downward before fifth grade began. I found myself an endless loop over summer vacation of waking up, experiencing the day as a blur, sleep, then repeat. This drove me to discover a new way to spend my day. On the television I noticed a recurring advertisement for a game called ‘World of Warcraft’. At first I instilled the mindset that I could spend my time pragmatically but eventually I succumbed to boredom. I asked my dad if we could invest fifteen dollars a month into a game that I seldom heard about; after a few days of negotiating we came to the agreement of keeping my grades above C’s. After three days of downloading the game, I was finally been able to play. The morning it finished I woke up and instantly rushed towards my computer and opened up the game where I was greeted to a green portal with two gigantic statues to the side. My heart skipped a beat.

Due to my poor work ethic I never considered taking higher level classes; The choice was recondite. I took a minute to make a final decision. Eventually I decided to try it out. That minute of my life was the minute that changed everything. If I thought I’d never succeed in higher classes I mightn't have taken them and would’ve stayed on the downward path. Because of that decision I started working harder, I actually wanted to learn, and began understanding the classes. Although I wish I made the decision earlier, this is my most cherished accomplishment. This accomplishment is what I feel is my transition from a lazy, hopeless student all the way to a mature student and it’s one of the most that I am proud

It was a small box that barely fit my name. I took my time carefully scribing the 21-letters neatly with the mini golf type pencil. The fitness center sign in sheet was only a quarter filled with teenage boy scrawl. Rows of machines that looked similar to medieval torturing devices lined the walls. I walked in suddenly doubting my decision to workout.…

I wake up to the sound of my alarm on my phone ringing. I consider myself a morning person, as getting up is always pretty easy. I suppose this is because I know if I don't get up and get to my classes, I'll fail. I didn't used to be a morning person until I almost failed eighth grade, so it made sense. Even though it was Monday, I was still up on time.…

Four Classes in Four Years Throughout high school, I was “stuck”, per se, in four classes that would change the way I looked at everything around me. Yes, it might sound corny, but eight tables later, twenty four chairs later, and a certificate at the end of my senior year, I finally understood why there classes were so important to me, and in the end, some of the material that I learned in the classes was beneficial and I will continue to use it throughout the rest of my life. There I was, a short (4’11”) and chubby freshman entering high school, giddy because I finally got to this stage in my life, and motivated because I wanted to do well.…

Twenty six years ago we were riding in the back of my parent’s truck, back then we didn’t have to wear seat belts and we could stretch out in the back. It was me and my twin sister with our best friend Holly, and she was sharing with us about Jesus. I don’t remember a lot about the conversation since I was only 11 years old, but I do remember like it was yesterday that my sister and I decided to ask Jesus into our hearts for the first time. From that day forward I have learned to walk daily with Jesus by my side. That decision is what has gotten me to where I am today, applying to finish my schooling at CCU.…
