It was the Sectional Championship game for boys volleyball and my team was in the midst of a historic season. That year we ranked eighteenth in state and two of our star players were going on to play volleyball in college. A win would bring us one step closer to ending the dry spell in the boy’s volleyball program. We were down by one and I, as a substitute player, was on the endline with the deciding serve of the game. All I had to do was serve the ball in the court and give my team a chance to win. I served the ball and felt the air sucked out of the gym as it sailed out of bounds. I was embarrassed and devastated that I had let my team down. I played the perfect game up until that moment, but because I missed the serve, I performed poorly in everyone's eyes. Like all children all I ever wanted was to be big and do big people things. I engaged in a few family members that I would look up to and try everything they did. I use to pretend to go grocery shopping and being a parent at times. At the age of eight, I had worn the worst pain ever and that was watching my five, year old brother getting hit by a car while trying to cross the street riding a bicycle that had a loose chain. I remember him trying to get up and get to me, but a few adults that had witnessed the accident had told him to lay down.…

My first two serves were aces, and our whole team had gone hype. From there we volleyed 4 points and went beast mode. The student section was going crazy. Now, I knew I had to push one more point because we had 24 and we go to 25. I told my self we were the greatest, tossed the ball up, hit it with all I had left in me and ran in the court to see the other team shank the ball right into the net.…
