During practice one day at the beginning of the season I could tell something was wrong with my coach. She was not really acting herself and neither was the assistant coach. They were not acting as funny and loud as they usually were. My team was very cautious about what we were saying and how we were playing because we did not want them to get upset with us when we thought they were already on edge. We had worked really hard that day and they ended practice a little earlier than usual. We all started to pack up our shoes and kneepads as we did at the end of every practice, until she called us over to sit in a circle. But this year we knew we had to put it over the top. We bought roses for every girl on the team and we all thought of something we loved about our coach. When the ceremony started we lined up with our roses. The look on her face was one of confusion, she had no idea this was coming. One by one, we said what we loved about her and handed her the roses. After each rose her tears grew more and more. We had forever touched a heart of a survivor. We didn’t care if we won or lost, we only cared about supporting our coach and breast cancer.
