Personal Narrative: Varsity Soccer Team

Improved Essays
Failure is all around us, for most of us it is a daily occurrence even with little things like failing a quiz or missing a shot in your game. I used to let my failures define me and who I have been especially when I failed to make the Varsity soccer team my junior year. I believed I worked hard and I should have been able to accomplish this goal of mine. I worked hard throughout the summer and tried my hardest to keep up with the other girls so I would make Varsity. I believe I overcame this failure by continuing to play on the JV soccer team my Junior year and working as hard as I could to become a better player. With playing JV I became a leader on and off the field which I would not have got the opportunity to do if I had made Varsity because I would have been sitting on the bench more than I would have actually been playing soccer, not …show more content…
Talking with these girls on and off the field helped me learn the individual skills, they all had to use on the field to help achieve the team goal of winning. After the season, I realized that it was a better decision for me to play on the JV team because I got a chance to play harder, to play more and to improve myself. Also I got the chance to increase my skills to meet my goal to make Varsity my senior year. Failing now makes me want to work that much harder to meet my goal as a senior and not just give up or call a quits. I believe that my failure was small in comparison to others failures, but yet again I was only a junior in high school. My failure helped me have a different experience than I would have if I had been on Varsity. The JV team was undefeated that season and I was a big part of that being a returning player and helping the younger girls get used to high school soccer and work as a team to accomplish the goal of being the best we could

Sadly, as the season went on, I never got the starting spot I was hoping to get. But I had my junior year coming up, and I was not going to fall into the same trap that I did my sophomore season. The valuable lesson that I learned sophomore year is that practicing in the off-season is the most important part of baseball. I couldn't let the skills that I had fine-tuned, disappear over the period of not playing baseball. So every day in the off-season I did something involved with getting better at baseball whether it was running, throwing, or hitting in the batting cages.…

That fear keeps coming back. Before the commencement of the school year, I had gotten myself on the JV Soccer team. I was delighted, we had been winning games and I had been playing seventy-five minutes a game as a starter. School had just commenced and we were still dominating other teams, except Marquette. They had killed us a couple days before school in a one to five loss, But after the first week of school, we had another shot at them in the Arrowhead tournament.…

Ever since I was 8 years old, I dreamed of making it onto a girl’s college soccer team. Every year, I would work my hardest to improve my skills to try out for my high school's girls’ soccer team. Coming from a household with only a mother to support me, I knew that I had to work my hardest to not only be the best, but to get the scholarship that would support me for the rest of the way. Little did I know that one simple snap could change everything. On a balmy Saturday afternoon in May of 2014, I was preparing to do the usual soccer game with my co-ed recreation team.…

When I was a sophomore in high school I was trying out for my high school’s varsity men’s hockey team. I played goalie, and there were two other goalies trying out for the team. I felt confident about my tryout, but when the coaches asked to see me in their office by confidence turned into nervousness. When I walked into the coaches office I saw the look on their faces, and I knew what they were going to say next. They gave the option to stay on the team; or I could go play for a club high school team, because they were looking for a second goalie to fill their roster.…

Failures happen to everyone all of the time, what you do with the experience of those failures can vastly effect your life and your future success. The person who does not better themselves from failure can often wind up on a less successful path than someone who learns from failure and betters themselves from it. My failure to make the basketball team is one that I feel I have used as a positive tool to grow as a person and as a student. During the first trimester I was not participating in a sport, this unused time was an opportunity for me to attend offseason basketball workouts.…
