Personal Narrative: Usdi Saquo, Grandfather

When her grandfather appeared before her, he appeared the same as he always had; he was sitting cross-legged by the fire, chanting songs of days long past, and every now and then, he’d sprinkle a mixture of powders into the fire. And when he turned to face her, his eyes were still the color of snow, and as shocking as they were the first time she saw him all those years ago…
“There you are, Little One; I did not know if you would come.”
“It’s so dark and murky here that I could not find my way.”
“It’s not so dark when seen through different eyes,” he replied.
“Does it appear that way to me because I feel dark and gloomy?”
“Only you can answer that, Usdi Saquo”
“Why are you always here in the Spirit World, Grandfather- is it because you’re

His spirit must now cross over and travel the path to the light.”
“But I need him to stay! Please, Grandfather! Is there not something you can do to stop this- something I can do to hold onto him?”
“Tla. I am sorry, Usdi Saquo; his spirit must seek Unequa Adanvdo. The Great Spirit waits for him at the end of the passageway,” he replied.
His words were alcohol poured into the gaping wound that was her heart.
“Your love is strong, Little One. If you interfere with his journey and prevent him from finding his passageway, he can become lost to the Ghost Land. You would not want that, would you; it is where the tormented go.”
“No Grandfather, I would not want that,” Charity replied. “But I must find him. I have not been able to find him, even when I walked the wind; I fear for his soul!” she cried.
“Do not fear, Little One. When the earthly body dies, the light is revealed. He will have to choose to go -”
“But I fear he will try to find me, and I did not know if he could!”
Charity could hear the frustration in Two Feathers’ voice when he spoke.
“I know I cannot stop you from this journey, Little One; it has been laid out from your birth. I did not bring you here to stop you, but to warn

Knowing that something special was going to happen that day, because she could feel it deep inside her soul, Charity sprung out of bed. Her grandpa had always said that she had the “gift of knowing,” the same as her grandmother, Mi 'thebe, had. Mi’ thebe was a Cherokee name that in English meant Shadowy Moon. As she stepped outside the old, log cabin she took a deep breath of the cool, fresh mountain air and then stretched her back, leaning from side to side to remove the stiffness she felt from sleeping in her not so comfortable bed, which consisted of a straw-ticked mattress atop a wooden bunk that seemed to became flatter each year as she grew older. Her grandfather had built the cabin some fifty-odd years earlier as a wedding gift for…

Jessica Risner Heather Ward English 1101-41 October 5, 2015 “Love You Forever” Literary Analysis One of my favorite stories to read to my daughter is “Love You Forever” by Robert Munsch. The story is about a mother who sneaks into her son’s room, once he is sleeping, and sings a song to him. She sings to him these words “I’ll love you forever, I’ll like you for always, as long as I’m living, my baby you’ll be (pg. 14).” My favorite part about this story is that once her son is a teenager, and even a grown adult, she still sneaks into his room and sings her song to him.…

These traits of fire represent her father’s drinking problem and its effect on her life. For example, a mirage at the top of the fire “where the snapping yellow flames [dissolve] into a shimmery heat” (61) is “a place where no rules apply.” Similarly, her dad does not follow any rules when alcohol consumes him. He is no more than heat, drying out his family’s money and patience. One example of him breaking the values of his family is on Christmas.…
