Personal Narrative: Uncle Stan's Truck

Decent Essays
The ride home from the mall with my Great Uncle Stan and all my brothers and sisters was agonizing. My younger brother Quinton would not stop crying that we had gone the wrong way back home. On the other hand, Donnajo was attempting to sit in Uncle Stan’s lap while he was in the middle of driving, which more than likely caused the events that happened later on that night. Now even though it sounds really inappropriate for their age, all three of my recently nine-year-old siblings were in the front seat. We were in what used to be Stan’s truck, meaning there were only three seats in the front. Yet somehow the two oldest kids out of our deranged family got stuck in the back. Not to mention, we were also the only two kids with a seat belt on.

Close call on Current River In the small town of Popular Bluff, Missouri, sun was brightly shining down on this hot summer morning, making it the optimum day to go tubbing down Current River. We loaded up the car with the essentials that would be needed; then we loaded up into two vehicles and headed for the river. As the oldest child I have often faced many challenges and obstacles, but my family's support and my determination to succeed has kept me persistent. Three years ago, my mother had surgery and spent over two weeks at the hospital while my brothers and I remained at home. My mother's absence was a tormenting experience in which made me more conscious of the responsibilities I had as the oldest sibling. During her absence, I was required to take her place and watch over my brothers while my father nursed my mother.…

My brother Lester was first diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia at the age of sixteen. Paranoid schizophrenics often have false delusions and auditory hallucinations, causing them to see things-people or objects that aren’t really there or to hear voices no one else can hear. It’s difficult for schizophrenics to differentiate between their illness and reality. For the most part, they can’t.
