“I am very tired, my eyes want to shut,” I complained. My family is preparing for a trip to Uncle Doug's cabin in the country at 8:00 am on a cold Saturday in September. We are loading up for a huge trip in our SUV for a week at the cabin. My dad said, “we must be prepared, the cabin is not near any conveniences of a town.” The doors are wide open, all of our gear must make it in somewhere. I just hope that there is a seat for me! We rode and rode, our trip was suppose to be about 3 hours!! Oh boy! I need something to do. A game on my phone could be a relief and we do have snacks. My dad fuels up our SUV, there are no gas stations close to the cabin. We must get anything we have forgotten from home now. Mom grabs pancake mix, paper towels, and of course candy. We are back on the road again. After about 1 hour in the car we finally make it to the cabin! It's getting late in the afternoon. We are greeted by two deer in the driveway to the cabin and we say our greetings to them as they run away.
It is a little frigid in the cabin, my dad starts a fire in the fireplace and we turn on the heat. My brothers and I use a little teamwork and carry in logs for the fireplace. I claim a bunk bed in the loft that allows a view of the tremendous television.
Unfortunately, with a cabin in the country comes dead flies and ladybugs and dust everywhere. We get the brooms and the vacuum running quickly and prepare for our stay. A quick look outside and I see nothing. It was now dark and there are no street lamps, no city lights or any traffic! Outside on the porch, I hear some distant cows and a train blasting its horn at a crossing somewhere miles away. The stars are all over the sky, it is much easier to see the stars without city lights. Owls are greeting me with a hoot! Then suddenly a few coyotes yip and howl nearby and I quickly come back into the cabin from the porch! That was very creepy! My family gets into bed …show more content…
My brothers are attracted to the ping pong table like a magnet. I can't get a turn to play, they are very serious about ping pong. Our family starts planning the day. Trail rides on the four wheelers! One of my favorite things to do at the cabin is riding four wheelers. My favorite is the green four wheeler, it is very powerful. My dad said, “ be safe and watch the fuel gauge. Come back to the cabin if it is low.” I gave a quick “ok dad” and took off. We rode up the hills, down the hills and around every turn.
