“I am very tired, my eyes want to shut,” I complained. My family is preparing for a trip to Uncle Doug's cabin in the country at 8:00 am on a cold Saturday in September. We are loading up for a huge trip in our SUV for a week at the cabin. My dad said, “we must be prepared, the cabin is not near any conveniences of a town.” The doors are wide open, all of our gear must make it in somewhere. I just hope that there is a seat for me! We rode and rode, our trip was suppose to be about 3 hours!! Oh boy! I need something to do. A game on my phone could be a relief and we do have snacks. My brothers and I like to make up games to kill some time. The game was finding anything with a number seven. “I see a tractor with a 7 on its side,” said my …show more content…
My dad fuels up our SUV, there are no gas stations close to the cabin. We must get anything we have forgotten from home now. Mom grabs pancake mix, paper towels, and of course candy. We are back on the road again. After about 1 hour in the car we finally make it to the cabin! It's getting late in the afternoon. We are greeted by two deer in the driveway to the cabin and we say our greetings to them as they run away.
It is a little frigid in the cabin, my dad starts a fire in the fireplace and we turn on the heat. My brothers and I use a little teamwork and carry in logs for the fireplace. I claim a bunk bed in the loft that allows a view of the tremendous television.
Unfortunately, with a cabin in the country comes dead flies and ladybugs and dust everywhere. We get the brooms and the vacuum running quickly and prepare for our stay. A quick look outside and I see nothing. It was now dark and there are no street lamps, no city lights or any traffic! Outside on the porch, I hear some distant cows and a train blasting its horn at a crossing somewhere miles away. The stars are all over the sky, it is much easier to see the stars without city lights. Owls are greeting me with a hoot! Then suddenly a few coyotes yip and howl nearby and I quickly come back into the cabin from the porch! That was very creepy! My family gets into bed

My brothers are attracted to the ping pong table like a magnet. I can't get a turn to play, they are very serious about ping pong. Our family starts planning the day. Trail rides on the four wheelers! One of my favorite things to do at the cabin is riding four wheelers. My favorite is the green four wheeler, it is very powerful. My dad said, “ be safe and watch the fuel gauge. Come back to the cabin if it is low.” I gave a quick “ok dad” and took off. We rode up the hills, down the hills and around every turn. My favorite part of the trail was going through the creek. But in all the fun I did not do the one thing my dad said… We ran out of

To prove this Uncle Tom’s Cabin was written by Harriet Beecher Stowe to show readers the life of an African American during the 1800s by showing the separation of families, the harsh conditions of being a slave, the hypocrisy of slave owners and while also showing the power of religion to stay strong during the hard times of being a African American in the U.S. Harriet shows what slaves had to face by showing families getting separated from each other and having emotional sadness. Various techniques of contrast and opposites regarding different races, sexes, and regions are employed in Uncle Tom’s Cabin in order to emphasize the main theme of propagandizing love and equality. Among those dichotomies, the description of two characters with opposing believes and personalities, Uncle Tom and Simon Legree, is probably the most evident contrast. Uncle Tom, as the main character, represents a symbol of loyal and piety. He is so loyal that he wouldn’t take the advantage of being trusted even if he has the chance to abscond with money. As Mr. Shelby’s describes: “Tom is a good, steady, pious fellow…I always found him true and square in everything.”…

With my dad leading wearing a red and white Fox brand shirt and me just behind him wearing a pink and black Fox brand shirt we left camp and spent most of the day riding almost all of the trails in Forest Hill. The fresh scent of pine trees and exhaust gas filled my nose as I made my way, trail to trail. Large rocks and small bumps filled the narrow trail. Occasionally I would ride through a puddle and get my dirty brownish-black riding boots soaked with water. Random thoughts filled my mind, as I reflected on what has been going on in my life.…

The Civil War is the focal point in America 's verifiable cognizance. While the Revolution of 1776-1783 made the United States, the Civil War of 1861-1865 figured out what sort of country it would be. The war determined two key inquiries left uncertain by the upheaval: whether the United States was to be a weak union of separate states or a powerful country with a unified government; and whether this country, conceived of an assertion that all men were made with an equivalent right to freedom, would keep on existing as the biggest slaveholding nation on the planet. The Civil War was an unavoidable toll that was certain to unfold because of the disagreements between the North and South social orders, subjection, and governmental issues. After…

In today’s modern society, it is hard to grasp the concept of the institution of slavery; however, it was a harsh reality for millions of African Americans during early United States history. Although slavery was an enormous and profitable system for the white Americans, growing zeal for the abolition of slavery increased leading up to the Civil War. Family values, white job protection, and Christian morals were the most influential underlying forces in the growing opposition and resentment toward slavery from 1776 to 1852. Family values were a key component in Southern culture, and in the years leading up to the Civil War, an increasing number of individuals realized the damagingly tight grip that the institution of slavery had on families. The second great awakening not only created a change in gender roles for women,…
