"Life is full of fake people, trust no one".That is something that I have been told over and over again since I was little. All my life trust has never been an issue with me, I didn't think twice about it. Until last year I thought I could trust my boys with something that could put me away for a long time. But they taught me a lesson, I can't trust anybody. My mama said I'm "Cursed with a blessing".

When I moved to Suffolk, Virginia I didn't have any friends, and I used to get bullied in school. The only people that showed me love was this school gang called "flyboyz". It wasn't a real gang though it was just some kids that live on the same street at me. They needed "do boys" and I needed friends, I didn't care at the time I was just glad

Because in the past, I’ve trusted people that have turned around and talked about me behind my back which hurt me in the long run. Which is why I can see others perspectives that have been hurt in the past by someone or multiple people that they’ve trusted relying on trust so much. I don’t really think that trust would never exist, because there will always be that gut feeling about something or someone that you go with. That feeling is trust, someone just put a name to that feeling in your gut. But somehow if trust didn’t exist, I can see this world way different than it is today.…

The norm may not always be the right way to go. I no longer want to be a part of a popular or important group of people, if I feel that what the group is doing or believes in is wrong, even if it means I'm not a part of the norm. I am not afraid to stand out on my own. I have challenged this belief for many years. When I was in elementary school, I was bullied by a group of girls that I hung with, looked up to and idolized.…

Faith is the belief in something greater than us one can put full trust, confidence, and reliance on when difficult times arise. I was raised to be involved with church activities to maintain my spiritual life; additionally my faith grew dramatically when my cousin deceased and gave me an overview of what I wanted to pursue my career as. When I was a child, my parents encouraged me to always be as loving and caring as I could be, not for personal gain, but to be benevolent to the people around me. I was raised with two loving parents, Mario and Rebeca, along with a younger brother, Mario and older sister, Ana.…

I was eight and in California visiting with my vegetarian grandparents. We were being seated in a vegan restaurant for a late lunch. Tucked inside the glossy menu was a printed brochure regarding the meat industry. I stared at the cow on the front, its big brown eyes staring out at me. I scanned the pamphlet and read the information about the cruelty in the food industry.…

The rain began to softly drip onto the girl ’s unkempt black hair as she walked along the weather-beaten sidewalk. Only a few rays of sun pierced the gray sky. A few cars passed by on the road; an old rusted Ford truck, a white minivan, and a shiny car with a green “Sheriff” across its doors. All three cars pulled into the school parking lot.…

Jackie Robinson once said “I’m not concerned with your liking or disliking me… all I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” This was my motto as i moved to the USA from Egypt at the age of six years old. Although i was not as old as i am now it was still tough. Thanks to determination and persistence i was able to not only make it in school but understand the language and speak it. It had been a year after my brother was born, i had made a lot of friends in kindergarten, had my dad’s side of the family here, i had finally learned to read and write a little bit of Arabic, and was about to go to first grade.…

Sometime, when I was about four, in a small, isolated country kitchen in regional Victoria, my mother noticed that I was taking "funny turns", moments that took me away and into my own world. It took time but eventually the diagnosis came back - welcome to epilepsy. Then, back in the day it was a limiting and defining description; no support groups; little information but much fear; it stalked me through all facets of life, complicating both the serious and the mundane. It changed little things, fell between you and life, little hurdles, like risk; the meds made you nod off in the afternoon; the need to carry medication (got your wallet; got your pills), explanations and reassurances for teachers, coaches and, just when you thought you…
