I’ve been playing soccer ever since I was 5, and have always loved the sport since the first touch of the ball. But for the first few years of my soccer “career”, I had always been playing for fun. When I was playing for fun, I was always the best player on my team, but I really wanted a challenge. So when I got to the age of 8, I decided that I was ready for the next level, competitive soccer.
“Hurry up, Jason! You’re going to be late for your tryouts!” my mom hollered from downstairs. I covered my ears with my pillow and I heard the constant muffled yelling from my mom. “You…… get….. quickly…. or else….” and then I heard someone stomping up the stairs towards my room. “It’s going to be a long day,” I told myself as I confronted the monster coming into my room.

I was at the TSC,the competitive soccer team of my city, tryouts and meeting my new coach.
“Hustle, boys come on!” I heard as I walked into the tryouts. As I

“Get in behind the defense with the diagonal through balls we have been practicing, and we will surely be able to score. And remember guys, just go out there and play your game, because this is a team you should have no problem beating. Let’s go 1,2,3 TSC!” just like that, the game had started.
Coach put me in my preferred right-midfield position , but it felt a bit weird at first, because the game felt like it was played so much faster than on my old team. Finally, we got the ball and progressed it up the midfield. Matthew, the midfielder, passed me the ball. I panicked a bit and took a bad touch, losing the ball. Just calm down and play your game, I thought trying to encourage myself to play better. 5 minutes later, the other team had a free kick near our goal, I turned around not wanting to see what happened. Please don’t score please don’t score, I thought, but as I heard the whooshing sound of the net and the cheer of the crowd, I knew MSC had just scored their first

It was October 16, 2012. I was in seventh grade, just a boy to become someone or something. We were loading the bus with our two coaches, Coach Voss and Coach Larh. Coach Voss the offensive coach who liked to make us run, and coach larh, our Defensive coach who taught me everything I known about the defensive side of the ball. This was a big game for me and my fellow teammates this game was going to set the tone for the rest of the season to show that we can be successful.…

Today was the day that I had been waiting for, for the entire year. It was something that made me practice and play almost every day just preparing for this, and I knew that victory was within my reach. Quickly changing into my ironed clothes, and eating a soggy bowl of cereal, I raced out into the cold, desolate driveway, waiting for my ride as snowflakes flew around me. Breathing in the cold air nervously, I made sure to have everything on me, as to not forget a thing. Pulling the items out of my backpack, I discovered my small gadget phone, a hearty oatmeal bar, a frozen bottle of water, and a vast amount of quarters that I would use to purchase meatball Subs in between the rounds of play.…

Early into 2016, my interest in soccer was relit. Perhaps I wanted to be more like my brother, who’s serious in obtaining a career in professional soccer.…
