Transitioning from college to high school was a huge milestone not only for myself but the people in and around my life. Coming from a small town that everyone knew and of course getting good grades. I knew my life at CSULA would change my life for the good and that my choice of coming here would benefit me. But before I came I faced a lot and still face some barriers. First and for most, I was the never good at public speaking all my life I would dread to speak in front of a class and hated it so much. But after doing it for many years and doing it in college, I finally don't have the dreadful, horrible feeling I had before, well a little less now. But I feel more confident in my speaking and performance skills. A way I cope with this is sometimes …show more content…
Now in college, I find myself doing more and trying to make sure all my grades in my classes aren’t slipping. During high school in senior year, I didn’t struggle much with my classes and did well in them. However, college was not the case, when I went into my stats class I thought it would be easy, it turned out not too. I began slipping in that class, which by the way stats or maths isn’t my best subject. When my grade started sipping I started feeling bad for taking for granted easier classes I took in the past. Breaking through this barrier I made sure I studied and understood the material and asked questions in class. This led to me to bring my grade up in the class and keep my toes in every lecture I go through that class. Another thing I tend to struggle with more with is me, of course overall transitioning from easy classes to upper division classes. Once arriving in LA I knew that classes were not going to be easy nor hard but were something to challenge myself. The college has taught me that there's a lot to discover in classes, not only the subject but within yourself. That every lecture, notes, and classwork you are going to have, will bring times of struggle and

For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

“Strength and growth only come only through continuous effort and struggle” - Napoleon Hill. As a Sophomore I took 1 challenging class, which was an honors class, because I was afraid of struggling and fear of failing. I was almost mentally accepting that I would never have the capability or succeed in Honors classes and AP classes. I began to find out the term “Honors” was just a word the education placed to intimidate individuals to not challenge themselves. To this day this has been my biggest regret; not challenging myself with tough classes.…

I walked into the familiar main entrance of the school, crossing my arms and setting my face into what I thought was an intimidating glare. Although I looked like an angry toddler, with my round face and childish glower, my attitude came across very clearly: I was not happy at all to be back at school. After getting into a huge fight with my friend group earlier that year, I was starting high school essentially friendless. It wasn’t as if I didn’t have another group of people to fall back onto.…

I had grown tired of being clueless during lectures, always trailing behind as the teacher leaped from concept to concept. Despite toiling through the camp, spending late nights and devoting myself to hard study sessions, I was forced to watch as my peers surpassed me in every subject and on every test. The tipping point came when my roommates, whom I had known for years, were discussing problems from an even higher-level class. I again had the painful feeling that I was being left behind. If I could not even grasp the concepts of the easier class, how would I ever compete in more rigorous courses?…

We shared a building with two other high schools, then by our second year we only shared it with one other school. I did succeed in making my grades but by the last months of the semester I realize that the stress that came with procrastination wasn’t worth in ad I started working on time management. In high school the words time management are repeated but never really explains. I grew up hating the simple idea of time management, but I have since learned that is means balance. It is easy to think of staying in and doing nothing but studies, but true time management is the balancing the responsibilities you must complete and the things you want to do. This realization has taught me that I can have a “fun” college experience without forgetting the reason I am at a university.…
