Personal Narrative: Transition From A High School

Transitioning from a high school student from a small town, to a college campus where the students body is almost as large as my town population is quite terrifying. Im use to my 1,500 classmates, all of us attempting to squeeze down the same stairway, trying to find the time to do Art Club, student council, band (marching and concert), Mathletes, quizbowl, keeping up with homework, and working is a difficult process. It’s senior year now, and half of these activities will be long gone as I trudge along applying to college and keeping my GPA to my standards.. We don’t have mommy and daddy to help us through our problems, holding our hands through the dark. Our decisions we make from here on out are all on us. What college are we going to, what do i do about FAFSA, are we going to live in a dorm, how do i know if i’m making the right choice; all these questions are swimming around in my …show more content…
But now i'm going to be away from home for months at a time. Sure, we have cell phones, skype, and any other form of communication but it’s not the same as being able to come home after a long day of school and have my family to talk to about my day. Ever since i can remember, once i got home from school my parents have always asked “how was your day at school”, and i would merely reply with “good” or “fine”; but as my final years at home come to an end, i find myself telling them every little detail of my day. I regret now not telling them about that A I got on that spelling test, or the excitement I had the first time I managed to get something other than a squeak out of my instrument. The days are numbered now, and i plan on making the best out of every single one of them. My parents have always been my biggest supporters from being at every band concert or football game, to going on college visits; and now my fans are going to be 300 miles away from

Last year of high school, seniors are focused on football games and prom, who 's dating who, and what their summer plans are with their “squad”. A senior in high school does not stress over their responsibilities as a student, completing homework to their full potential, or working as many shifts as possible to pay from education. I was the typical teenager who wanted to live life in the present and not take time out to ever think about the future ahead. Once I got into the “college life” I started to realize how quickly you have to grow up and establish what your priorities are. For college I have to main priorities which is graduating as a Warrior and to pay off schooling.…

The transition from High School can often times be very frustrating for students. L. Lennie Irvin opened my eyes to one of the bad habits I picked up on in High school. The habit of straying from the topic or theme could cause me to fail not only papers in English but my other courses as well. I personally had a hard time with English my first semester of college. In High school I was always at the top of my class and my teachers would tell me how great of a writer I was.…

For most students, the transition from middle school to high school is the evolution from childhood to adulthood. In my case, my middle school graduation was a quick transition for another reason. The first few months of my freshman year had my parents rushing my grandfather in and out of the hospital because of his failing heart. By this point my grandfather had battled off colon cancer, 3 heart attacks, and 2 open heart surgeries. At age 74 he was not a candidate for a heart transplant but he was able to get a defibrillator.…

I walked into the familiar main entrance of the school, crossing my arms and setting my face into what I thought was an intimidating glare. Although I looked like an angry toddler, with my round face and childish glower, my attitude came across very clearly: I was not happy at all to be back at school. After getting into a huge fight with my friend group earlier that year, I was starting high school essentially friendless. It wasn’t as if I didn’t have another group of people to fall back onto.…

Almost a year ago, when I was 15, my house was broken into. My parents had given me permission to stay home from school because I was feeling extremely stressed. Instead of going to school, I was to spend the day working from home. Since I hadn’t slept much the night before, I decided to take a quick nap before studying. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to rest for long.…

Have you ever been in a place where you didn’t think that you belonged or that you were misplaced? I was in this situation when I changed schools in the fourth grade. This made me feel nervous, “what if they don’t like me”, “what if I don’t have friends”, “what if I choose the wrong ones”. I felt like Wilbur the pig from Charlotte’s Web because he was the outcast out of all his brothers and sisters and no one wanted him. I glided very gloomily to the large yellow bus as my mother waved goodbye.…

Terrified, yet excited, I returned to public school freshman year after four and a half years of homeschooling. I was nervous about the transition back into public school and about the drastic changes in curriculum and protocol that I would need to adapt to. My first class on my first day was English with Mrs. Fix; I couldn’t have asked for a better teacher to begin my high school career with. Having a relaxed atmosphere in her classroom, Mrs. Fix is the perfect balance of teacher and friend to her students. Somehow she is able to be friends with her students whilst being respected by them.…
