Personal Narrative: Tractering

The day I first went tubing I conquered fear itself. Fighting against the water, against nature, I won, but it wasn't without challenge. The water crashed against the tube. Starting to lose my grip, I slowly brought my hand back to the handle. Then the tube jerked ahead and I began to fall.

The day was refreshing with the temperature in the upper 70s, unlike the normal 100 degree weather we had before. Excitedly, I jumped onto the boat knowing I would never be the same when I came back. Speedily riding for about 15 minutes and then my grandpa stopped. Peering over the side of the boat I saw the water had a spectrum of blues and greens as it glistened in the sunlight. Then my thoughts were interrupted when my grandpa threw the tube in the

Shooting up into the air I suddenly fell down and was splashed in the face. I suddenly heard my little brother laugh from the distance and I was motivated again. The boat's speed picked up and I crashed against the waves. Then almost out of nowhere the tube shot into the air again, but this time it was different. Slowly, I hit the water and my hands were rendered useless. Quickly I tried to grab onto the tube, but it was too late. It felt like I was in slow motion. Trying with all my might I tried to hold on for just a little longer, but I fell and was thrust under water. Overwhelmed by the volume of water, I started to …show more content…
Suddenly my life jacket pulled me up and I was fine. I tried calling out to the boat, but they couldn’t hear me. About a minute later, the boat had turned around and I had calmed myself down. Falling off was actually fun. The boat pulled up to me and I headed to the ladder.

My mom shouted, “Great job!”

I called back “Thanks”. I slowly climbed the ladder and started to dry off.

My grandpa asked, “Did you have fun?”

I replied “ Yeah, it was tons of fun.” I finished drying off and started to walk to the back of the boat. Walking around the boat I noticed that my little brother wanted to talk to me.

I asked him, “Was that cool?”

He replied “Yeah my favorite part was when you fell in.” I laughed and walked to the front of the boat. Exhausted, I laid down and closed my eyes. A few minutes later I opened my eyes and my grandpa was standing over me and asked “Do you wanted to drive?”

Jumping up I shouted “Of course.” As I was driving, I recalled how much fun that I had while I was tubing. That fear was no match for fun. Every summer since that day, I have tubed and loved it just as much as the first time I did

Even though each of us had our own tubes, Loren and Brian’s tubes were tied together with a rope to keep him close and safe, which at times was a detriment. So when we came upon the shallow parts of the river, one of the adults would stand while my brother would do little dives under the water, sounds of splashing and shrill of laughter from my brother as he jumped up and down in the water. When he broke the surface of the water there was such excitement upon his face. I could hear the urging pleas from my stepfather telling him to get back on the tube so we can continue our journey…

In between the wood platform, the cracks revealing the water stared back at me and I urged courage to submit itself quickly. I began to crouch and clasped my hands into diving position over my head, like the head of a hungry serpent, preying on a tranquil sea.
