Personal Narrative: Track

Ever since I was little and even now, I always had an endearment with sports that involve running, including Track. In middle school when I was in seventh grade, I wanted to participate in Track because I knew I would enjoy the sport. Track started in the spring during seventh grade, and the first couple of practices I thought were challenging and very arduous because of what little practice I had before Track had even started. All the new athletes joining our school track teams were callow and juvenile in the experience we had within the sport. The coaches were very meticulous, punctilious , and information on tips to assist us in what area each athlete wanted to make quintessential. It was like that for almost all my hard-but-still-exciting running events. In the one hundred I placed fifth, in the two hundred I placed second, in the four by one my team placed fourth, and the four by four my team placed first. These events weren't what I placed overall, but what I placed in my heat, for individual running. Consequently, being one of the top runners of your event in your heat, is not nearly as pleasurable as earning a top place overall at a meet. Ordinarily, there aren't many track runners who reach the level for winning first or second overall when they compete in a race against other talented. Unfortunately, even though I was very close, I did not qualify for state in my running events. Although, my team for the four by four relay did win a sixth place ribbon overall in sectionals. In the race, I was second to run, and just as the baton was passed to me, I sprinted like a cheetah around the track as fast as I could. I knew that the time was ticking and I had to keep running to my heart’s content; I knew that the endurance and power I had in sprinting would help me hand the baton to my team mate at the end; I knew that the harder I tried in this race, the team and I would get a chance to qualify for state. At the time, I had a back injury from too much vigorous and excessive exercise; therefore I couldn't perform my best than I wanted to. But, regardless of my injuries, including shin splints and back pain, notwithstanding, I still earned new personal records in my events and made progress.
