They were surprised that I actually came to practice. They said, “We are running three miles today, do you think you could keep up?” I scoffed, “Of course.” There was thirty long distance runners that were going to run with us in the practice. We all took off at the same time running 1.5 miles up the sidewalk of a Lasselle Street. The whole time Pablo, Eddie, and George were all ahead of me. After 1.5 miles, we ran back. Pablo finished 6th, Eddie Finished 7th, George finished 17th, and I finished 20th. Pablo and Eddie were surprised when I said I ran the three miles nonstop and embarrassed ten people on my first day by running faster than them. The three guys who got there first were tall, skinny, fast, juniors who were experienced. Their names were Oscar, Pedro, and Ivan. I was amazed at how fast these guys were at running and I thought they were really cool; I looked up to them. They had a group nickname as ‘The Triple Threat’. Throughout other practices, The Triple Treat would always be the first runners to get to the destination first and they would alternate on who would be the actual first guy there. In the middle of my senior year I became the fourth fastest being faster than Pablo and Eddie, the two guys who had laughed at me when I wanted to join track and field; it felt good to prove them wrong. I had one last goal in my senior year and that was to run a mile in less than five minutes. I had trained hard the whole season and I could not get my time down any lower. The best time I had achieved was five minutes and eight seconds. Then on my last race, everything was perfect, I felt good, the air was fresh, and I was ready to run a mile in less than five minutes. The gun shot off and I took off. I ran my first three laps in seventy-five seconds each. At this pace I would make it at exactly five minutes. I decided to step it up and try my hardest on my last lap, so I picked it up. In the last one hundred yards, I killed myself and sprinted the fastest I have ever sprinted. I finished the lap in seventy-one seconds. I did it! I ran the mile in four minutes and fifty-six seconds. That was the second fastest mile time out of my whole school. Kevin had the first with four minutes and forty-eight
