Personal Narrative: Tome Island

There is a place where many people go to for a wonderful vacation, it’s called Tome Island. It is fifty miles north of Hawaii, I don’t just visit, I live here. This isn’t a regular island, the grass was more green than a green marker or paint brush, beautiful crystal blue waters and bright white sand. But that's not the kicker, the kicker is that Is wasn’t just formed, it was made. Beautiful creatures built it, they are like giant white birds who can blow massive winds and fly up to 190mph, we call them Tomasians. We let them stay in there natural area while on the west side is where everyone stays at the Tomasian hotels, rich in gold those hotels are. I arrived in 2016 when I bought a house a few feet from the hotel, at the time I was the new security officer for the whole resort. When I first stepped on to this island it was so fresh and smelt so tropical, like punch. But when I saw the Tomesians I was blown away, …show more content…

I panicked considering I wasn’t armed, then it happened. My entire life flashed before my eyes and then giant wings darkened the room as bright blue lightning bolts struck the workers and Mr. Taken and as something landed in front of

Stories about survival have been popular since, virtually, the beginning of time, as survival is the most important and primitive aspect of human lives. It is the force that drove our evolution and refined us to our current stature today, so it is no surprise that we are amused by tales of robust endurance against the most severe circumstances. The stories The Inheritor and Side Bet are two prime examples of our fascination with these types of tales, but, when comparing the two stories of survival, one reigns as superior, with more vivid details of the setting, greater and more dynamic characters, and a more compelling plot. Between the two stories The Inheritor by Frank Roberts, and Side Bet by Will F. Jenkins, Side Bet prevails as the better…

When the boys arrive on the island it is beautiful similar to the Garden of Eden. Golding describes the island as "a great platform of pink granite thrust up uncompromisingly through forest and terrace and sand and lagoon to make a raised jetty four feet high. The top of this was covered with a thin layer of soil and coarse grass and shaded with young palm trees" (Golding, 9). This is very similar the Bibles description of how “God planted all kinds of beautiful trees that grow there and produce good fruit" (Genesis 2.9). Both appear to be a paradise.…

The cold breeze blew as the opaline snow fell gracefully to the ground just like falling leaves in autumn. Then a gust of wind threw everything out of order- the snow went in the direction of the wind because it had to. Life in the city still went on though- honking cars, bustling crowds, and the mouthwatering aroma of cooking food coming from restaurants. A gust of wind threw the snowflakes out of order, but for everything on this planet there is an opposing and stronger force for it. Sometimes we forget that- that there is something bigger, better, and smarter than us.…

My grand adventure to Hawaii had already begun many hours ago at the airport in L.A. Not every amazing adventure starts with a blood pumping start; sometimes it’s the quiet starts that are the best trips. The plane was quiet as everyone slept their way through the flight. The only sounds heard were the gentle hum of the plane and the soft footsteps of the flight stewardesses. I was still awake looking over the expanse of the ocean seeing nothing but the waves in the water and the occasional cloud float by with it all being illuminated by the glow of the moon.…

After exiting the plane, the first thing I noticed was the voices of the crowd. The words spoken at the Gustavo Rojas Pinilla International Airport seemed to mix together, and I could no longer focus on individual conversations like I could at Toronto several hours earlier. This trip to the Colombian island of San Andrés marked the first time I was venturing to a country where English was not the official language. In the weeks leading up to the trip I had tried to prepare by memorizing common Spanish phrases. It was not until I was surrounded by native speakers that I became conscious of how little I understood.…
