To Be Great is To Be Misunderstood "To be great is to be understood" is a very deep aphorism. You can look at it really quickly and

just assume that some looser, or a psychopath came up with that. However, this saying can have big

meaning to those, who have felt like they were misunderstood a lot. Nearly all great people were

misunderstood by people around them, but they kept going and stuck for what they believed in, in

result, they accomplished something really big and important.

Just because I like this aphorism, doesn't mean that I can't relate to it, and think that I'm a

great person. I did feel misunderstood a lot though. It seemed like my brain didn't want to work at

As we all go through life we will all undoubtedly be faced with circumstances that will make us gush with happiness, circumstances that will make us cry from the pits of our souls, and circumstances that will make us want to scream from the highest peak of the mountains. And during all these circumstances many people find themselves awash and looking for wisdom. Wisdom from individuals who have, for instance, already conquered life themselves. For me when I am in one of these situations I look for wisdom from one of my longtime heroes Dr. Martin Luther King jr.…

This is amazing, this is why I am called the Great One, because of this. I want to say that Gordie Howe is still better than me, because he did it before me, so I believe that he is better than me. Crosby, on the other hand, being called the “Next Great One,” seems right. In his high 20’s, when I got my records.…

A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

As time progresses, more and more people are accused of plagiarism. In the previous years it was not such a big concern. It has not yet become a crime to plagiarize, but you give yourself a possibility of being sued. When it comes to school, you can be expelled from the college, and it stays in your school record. Plagiarism does not only take place in writing, but also with clothes and music.…

In my life I have only ever got one B and for reasons beyond my control and to complex to be explained. However, this B feels like my first real B. It resembles the first course that has ever conquered me. The whole time I have been striving to get A’s not for my gpa but for myself because it was something attainable that I was certain I could accomplish and that seemed to solely rest upon me.…

Failure has always been a huge aspect in my life recurring in everything I indulge myself in; whether it be academically, athletically, or even Boy Scouts. I tend to have a knack for challenging myself till I am unable to complete the task given to me, whilst this could be good in some ways it also puts me in some not favorable situations. More recently I had the thought of completing a bike race , after receiving medical attention for a concussion and a broken collarbone. This was not necessarily the smartest decision on my part, especially since the race was longer than I have ever raced before and also a three day event.…

To the ones who believe asking, “What are you?” is a valid conversation starter, I am multiracial and proud, but to simplify my ethnicities to others when asked, I identify myself as Asian. I was stereotyped because of how we are perceived in media and society. I spent years cowering in my own skin because others made me believe I was not Asian because of the size of my eyes, the color of my hair, and my personal interests. I was ashamed of what I looked like since I was convinced it embodied who I am as a person.…

What really changed my version of this quote, is a group I joined my freshman year after hearing many testimonies from my older sister. The group, Student 2 Student is dedicated to helping new students transition when they come to Falcon High School throughout the year. When students comes in they are paired with a Student 2 Student member that shows them around, takes them to their classes and eats lunch with them. I in my mind, I was the poster child for the opposite type of person that I thought belonged in this group. I was not keen on…

Some may not understand or agree with the statement “To be great is to be misunderstood,” from Emerson, but I believe that this aphorism is a perfect description of every great person who ever lived because every person worth knowing or learning about has been judged by others without deserving it. I have experienced this first hand within the past year of my life. While I know I’m not the greatest athlete in the world, I consider myself to be one of the top athletes in the school. When I decided to join the football team there were many people who questioned me saying, “what do you think you are doing?” or “Don’t you know you are too small to play football?”…
