It was October 30th 1939 when these extraterrestrials made themselves known to us humans. I was driving past a suburban area in New Jersey listening to the radio when a professor in Illinois reported seeing 3 explosions happening at equal intervals on mars. I remember Professor Pearson saying there was no life on mars and that we had nothing to worry about, although he himself had no explanation for the explosions happening. I didn’t think much of it, many things were happening with our world, there was no need to go along worrying about other planets when humanity was trying to get itself under control.
All of a sudden, a jet of blue flame came piecing through the earth’s atmosphere, landing on the farmland a few kilometres ahead of where I was driving. I remember slamming the breaks in my shocked state. And after a moment’s hesitation I drove towards the small crowd forming around the landing.

The Martians continued their assault, the entire world black with their smoke, so dark that even when the sun was up it created a dull light. Almost as if a grey cloud was always hovering beneath it, rejecting its bright light. I still held onto the radio in hopes that someone would tune in.
