Personal Narrative: The Writing Process

Decent Essays
There are many steps to follow in order to prepare for a volleyball game and to prepare for a paper. I have to eat healthy, workout, practice, watch film, then practice specific techniques in order to prepare for a game. While writing, I have a set of steps to follow so that I will have an organized and successful paper, such as prewriting, drafting, conferring with friends, editing, proofreading, and finally publishing. Now I am standing in an empty volleyball gym and am finally ready to start the writing process.
My prewriting process begins with me writing out my name, date, class, and teacher’s name to first calm down and to allow my brain slow down. Before the volleyball workout starts, I take deep breaths and remind myself why I am here.

I get their thoughts and comments and write them down on a piece of paper to look over later. Next, I will share what skillset I am working on improving on in this week’s practice with my teammates and I ask them to critique my paper harshly. Lastly, I like to confer with my college coach about my papers, since he is the volleyball expert and I am not the best writer in the world.
Finally, after I have gathered everyone's thoughts on my paper, I start to revise and edit for the final practice. I will first look at the main objectives for the final practice session, then I really go in and nitpick things like my grammar, spelling, and vocabulary. I almost always have to cut down my word count, and turn my run-on sentences into separate sentences. At this point, I am done revising my paper and am mentally and physically ready for the big game tomorrow.
The morning of the big game I have my parents read through and tell me what they think of my final draft. Now I head to school to conquer the opposing team and get the win. It is finally game time. I turn my paper in to Mrs.Poff and relax, finally, because the game is over and my team has won the

Reflection Over that three assignments above and the other assignments we have done over this quarter I have noticed a way of think and formating I do when starting a assignment. When starting an assignment I don't start or finish things in order I'll do the main requirements for what goes where and create how ever many pages it needs then I’ll Start the assignment in the middle where I'm doing the main most important part first. For example this project I started with the hard moments essay instead of a title screen just to get it out of the way. I've noticed I don't talk much in class, even though I used to always get in trouble in language arts and reading for talking because I hated those classes, but not speaking much in class doesn't mean I don't contribute to class. I think I contribute a good amount I volunteer for questions (Sometimes).…

The way I move through my own writing process is simple. I always start with research on a specific topic that an instructor gives me. I’m that kind of person that loves to highlight the important details of someone else’s information so I can admire her or his work in my papers. Then after finding the right amount of work to compose my own paper I start out with a title page.…

When I was a child I always though about business. I wanted to know how things worked, how money worked. I started watching my grandfather write his invoices, deposit checks, talk to people as if he knew them but they had just met. I wondered how he did it, how he played his cards right and got people to hire him.…

My writing experience: I didn’t start to read until I was in first grade. Every week we would go to library to check-out two books and take a test on the books we read on a computer. Every day in English we read a short story to ourselves then we would play games dealing with the story to make it fun. To be honest I never really did a lot of writing in Elementary , Middle, or High school so I can’t pinpoint when I started writing. In essay writing I learned its always good to express yourself with your own opinion.…

Prewriting, in essence, is just as important as creating the final copy of your work as it ensures that your writing is well formed and thought out. Without getting your ideas put into the best order possible the outcome would appear lifeless and unclear. I used “prewriting” techniques prior to knowing that it was an actual thing. Out of the five strategies shown in our textbook, I use both the “listing” and “outline” techniques as they seem to create more order out of my oftentimes chaotic thought process. I do not believe I could simply choose one strategy and create my best work.…

The prewriting strategy that I like most is a combination of brainstorming and listening. It's a combination because I will record my ideas (brainstorming) about what I will write about. Then listing to my brainstorm in a form of a recording, it comes a combination strategy. I find this combination of both strategies to work well for me. Being that English is my second langue, when I brainstorming my ideas onto a paper I get stuck trying to spell a word and losing my train of thought.…

There were so many people that day to take the GED test. We all appeared nervous. The nice woman who signed me in, stood up front. She explained all the rules: no talking, no cheating, and no restroom breaks till you have finished the test. Before taking my seat I grabbed ear plugs took a drink from my water bottle and headed toward a seat up front.…

Over the first semester I feel I have been appropriately challenged in the area of writing we have done this year. I learned many new skills, but the most important one involves English and how to write properly. As for the first writing, I really did not understand what was right and what was wrong. Because I never paid close attention to specific rules in how to write. I truly believe it has been hard for me.…

When it comes to Composition 1, I learned a lot. In the beginning I wanted to learn how to become a better and creative writer. I also wanted to learn how to come up with topics and write about them easier. One last very important thing that I wanted to learn was how to prepare myself for college next year. After finishing Composition 1, I can say that I did accomplish all of those goals.…

It is never a more daunting task than to begin writing an essay, but with the use of the many invention strategies this task becomes especially simple. Using the invention strategies such as freewriting, clustering, and listing one can easily establish a topic or idea that will quickly attain the attention from their audience. There are many people who dismiss the use of invention when beginning the writing process because they believe it is a waste of time and does not serve a valid purpose. Although not every invention strategy is for everyone, often times there are one or two that a writer will come accustomed to using. “Ernest Hemingway used to sharpen all his pencils as preparation for a day’s writing; the French philosopher Voltaire soaked his feet in cold water to get the creative juices flowing.”…

My Reflection: So I believe that I have shown growth in my writing skills because looking back in Grade 9 and the beginning of Grade 10 I saw myself as like a "Level 2" person when it comes to writing because when I write something like an news article for example, so after I handed the news article in to assignment bin (ELS20 bin I guess) and it's handed back to me with some feedback and I read that feedback. It would say that I should revise it because I have some errors such as comma splices, or grammar errors and so I back then I wasn't really familiar with comma splices and I didn't know how to fix them, so now I have learned how to fix some of the errors I have made and I think that I have improved on my writing whether it's online or…
