The past 24 hours there been various level of consciousness, I have experienced. It all started when I woke up this morning from my sleep, which was about 6-7 hours this sleep was composed of Non-Rem (non-rapid eye movement) and Rem (rapid-eye-movement). Once, I woke up I took a shower and ate some breakfast to get my day started. Later, In the day I went to class, and we where required to do experiments, this allowed my brain to produce beta-waves. During this class, I felt very conscious in this class due to, all the engagement that is needed when conducting different experiments. An EEG would show rapid beta brain waves, with a high number of cycles per second. This would indicate frequent impulses of electrical activity in the brain. After, class I had some home work assignments that needed to get done, along with some studying for an upcoming test next week. Thirty minutes into my school work, I was starting to wander and day dream. My conscious was definitely wandering during these 15-30 seconds, I was some where else. Many scientists all over the world have all attempted to explain the physiological and psychological effects of peoples sleep and dreams. In spite of this, up until this century and with few exceptions, everyone has always thought that while a person slept, their body and brain went into an inactive state. It wasn’t until 1928 when a German psychiatrist that goes by the name of Hans Berger discovered electrical activity inside of the human brain and distinguished differences in these rhythms when the patients were sleeping and when they were awake. It wasn’t until many years later that rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, or dream sleep as some call it, was described. When the convincing evidence of this was provided from studies that the brain is very much active during REM sleep and while certain areas or parts of the…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Waking up then becomes more difficult, and larger brain waves begin to form. Once stages one and two passes by, the sleeper falls into the next stage known as “deep sleep”. Heavy sleep begins in NREM stage three while slow delta waves take place after thirty-five to forty minutes since the person fell asleep. Electroencephalograms, a system to measure brain activity, show that brain waves slow down more and become significantly larger. The dreamer sleeps through the noise and disruptions without any physical response.…

The clock had already hit 0.00 but the final shot was in the air. I had watched it leave my hands from just behind the three point line less with less than a second of time left. I knew my girlfriend was behind me, in the stands watching as she had been the whole game. My coach had told me to take the shot during the timeout, five seconds had been on the clock at that point, almost an eternity. Out opponents had gotten so cocky, when they scored to take the lead with 8 seconds remaining, their bench had run out onto the court forcing the referee to yell at them all, delaying the game.…
