Brenda Beckman-Long’s Genre and Gender: Autobiography and Self-Representation in The Diviners, analyzes and dissects the way Margaret Laurence creates female characters challenging patriarchal norms relating to gender by using textual structure in her novel The Diviners. To sum the text up Beckman-Long argues that Laurence uses specific vocab to depict the oppression a strong female character feels when challenging gender beliefs in a certain time period. An inner monologue told from the subjective point of view of the complex main character Morag who depicts both past and present events allows for Laurence to draw a connection between thought and speech. Showing how women's self-expression is suppressed by male dominance.…

My mind set is still stuck in the preparation stage and I need to push myself past that to take action in the next stage. I know I want to get more sleep but there is many factors that push me to stay awake and sacrifice sleep still; for example, hanging out with friends at night.…

My worldview closely resembles the Biblical Worldview described in the Charry text, but by no means is anywhere near where it could be. My Christian character will continue to develop and mature throughout my life as I continue to study the scriptures, commune with God in prayer, continually ask for repentance, and forgiving those who have showed transgressions toward me. L. Gregory Jones states, “Christian living requires a willingness to inquire after the God of Jesus Christ, an inquiry which shapes us a people of repentance and forgiveness” (Charry, 2000, p. 204). Repentance and forgiveness are two aspects of the Christian walk that I struggle with. There are many times that I get so busy with life that I forget to prayerfully repent…

Hearing God “God spoke to me” are words that create unease in the most dedicated of Christians. “I sense that God is speaking to my heart” are also words that can give sincere faithful people a feeling of being second class believers if in all honesty they cannot say they have had such an experience. Others have had encounters that are unexplainable other than to turn to Moses’s encounter at the burning bush and Abraham’s visitation at Mount Moriah but have kept them private for fear of ridicule. Lily Tomlin asks “Why is it that when we…
