Personal Narrative: The Trouble With Rumors In High School

Rumors spread like nasty parasites feeding on unreliable information. The pests transfer the gossip at the speed of light, making it difficult to control. When Tito came to our school, the rumors engulfed Chesterhill High like a suffocating blanket. The halls chaotic clamor was replaced with the sinister whispers of gossip-feeding teenagers.
The first day Tito arrived, I immediately decided to stay out of his way. He was a target, and I was certainly not going to intervene with whatever was coming his way. By second period I had my first glimpse of the new student scuffling through the hallway. He had a dark skin tone and sharp facial features. Instead, Tito stood up and stared into Zach's eyes. The whole school became dead silent; you could hear a pin drop. Zach’s signature smirk still danced upon his lips as he returned Tito’s gaze. Both looked confident and powerful… until Tito whispered something to Zach. It was a brief sentence, but whatever he said had completely altered Zach’s demeanor. The new atmosphere only lasted a millisecond until the stone cold face of the high school football star returned. A single tear rolled silently down Tito’s rosy cheek. Be different, be unique, because that’s the most beautiful version of you. I come up here when I’m down so I can be free of the real shadows in those halls. To be a shadow, you have to follow; you follow the popular people, buy expensive clothes, buy new phones, shoes, and accessories just so you can fit in. Let me tell you a secret. High School isn’t about fitting in, it’s about finding who you are on in the inside and discovering what you believe, then fighting for it. That’s what I told Zach, and that’s why I don’t let his pestering get to me. I know that someday when I have a successful job and happy family, highschool won’t matter
