A wandering child looks constantly for inspiration to find something in this life. They dream of careers or find individuals around them that they aspire to be. Ever since I was a young girl, I wanted to teach and travel. My Nana, who is my mom’s mom, always took me on adventures to allow me to see sights that would inspire me in future endeavors. It was our very first trip to Washington D.C. that drew me to appreciate the world of travel and embrace the differences of various locations.
Most eighth graders are given the opportunity to travel to D.C. to embark on an endeavor to experience the foundation of our country. The Big City tour bus that we used really opened the door for friendly conversation as we awaited the arrival of the bus. There are two encounters that I will never forget. The first happened on day two with two women relatively close to my nana’s age. They informed us of their experience with the same awful storm that put us in a delay for our original arrival day. They got stuck outside in it and had to delay all original plans for the next day. We had small talk for quite some time and really developed a friendship in the time we were together. The second encounter, which was my most favorite, was a couple from Sydney, Australia. Their accent was the most beautiful sound to my ears, and their hearts were pure gold. They would get on the bus before us and save us seats. This encounter happened our final day in D.C. and they traveled to many of the sites with us that day. We learned about their family as they did ours, and its a friendship I will never forget. Meeting new people is not always on the agenda for individuals when they go on trips, but I learned that you realize a lot from
