Personal Narrative: The Travel Baseball Team

It was springtime during the year of 2012, I was just about to start my summer. I was looking on the internet for sports to do in Kaneland, because I wanted to compete at a higher level. But I was not always comfortable with playing on a travel baseball team, but I knew this could be a great opportunity for me, so I took a risk and after all it, payed off. I asked “Dad would you think I would be able to compete and play on the travel baseball team” He smiled “Yes, but one thing I learned when I was young and playing baseball is; it is a game of mistakes, and the only way you can succeed is if you practice over and over to improve.” My dad was very excited that I would start playing travel baseball, but I on the other hand was nervous. I looked back on the website and …show more content…
I only have 4 days to practice my skills for the tryout!” My dad suggested that I should start practicing now, and I surely agreed with him. As I walked outside, It was a nice breezy day with crisp air, I thought “ Wow this is a perfect day to practice.” My dad agreed. We started to work on hitting and pitching skills. I did that for the next five days, and in an instance it was the day of the tryout, the baseball was calling my name. My dad overloaded with happiness no matter how it went down and said “ Do your best, and have some fun” The tryout held plenty of nerves but as I went to pitch I was calmed down and ready to go. When the first pitch hit the glove it was like a rock hitting leather, as the mitt slammed shut. The coach said “Nice pitch” and right then and there I knew I was cut out for this, I could see and feel myself being on this travel team. Throughout the rest of the tryout I felt as calm and composed as someone sitting down and reading a book. After tryouts were over, I thanked the staff who ran the tryout. Now I had to wait and see my results, it would take a week at the most. As I was driving home with my dad he thought I did a great job and he had faith in

Baseball: the sport where you stand around for 20 minutes and move 3 feet to the left and move 3 feet to the right. It’s so intense. It’s so intense that you could take a nap on the field with everything out there. Of course, I’m being sarcastic. The only time it’s actually fun is when you’re annihilating the other team while they’re asleep on the field.…

I flew around the field and made plays, while backing it up in the batters box with my bat. My performance was sufficient enough to be extended an invite to the Area Code Games! I was ecstatic when I received my invite and celebrated with my family, and throughout the excitement, I knew my work wasn't done. I can remember arriving to the field to meet my team in Long Beach and seeing Palm trees in the outfield and a Fresh-off-the-press New Balance bag with all of my assigned gear in it. I knew then that my work had payed off and that experiencing that failure in the summer of 2015 was the fuel I used to get here.…

Chances are high that more people have been faced by a trial, not the kind in court, but the kind where they are competing to show prowess in something. If they have succeeded in the trial they have felt accomplished or if you failed you just stay angry for a little bit at first and then you just think what you could of done or done better. Better yet, you failed even though you (thought) you did everything perfect or at least 95% right and you’re just waiting on the verdict like “man, I’ve got this one in the history books 100% and there’s no way I could've failed.”…

My very first baseball game I can remember it like it was yesterday. A hot sunny day Burning the pavement, the heat beating down on our car as we drive to downtown Houston. After three exhausting hours and two tire blowouts we finally arrived at Minute Maid Park the home of the Houston Astros, my first baseball game. Once we got past the security line we were free to go to our seats which were located in the middle of first and home. We got there about half an hour before the game started so the batters were out in the batting cage crushing the ball with a mighty swing, I was hypnotized by how gracefully they moved their…

We watched as the home pitcher struck the first guy out, at this point there was no score but, we were hopeful that our team would win, much like anyone would. We watched in silence as our pitcher struck the last guy out, and it was our team’s time to bat again. We watched as the first guy stepped up to the plate, all eyes were on him as he hit his first ball, but, it did go to the outfield, it went up in the air. At this point all eyes watched the sky for the foul, my husband being the 6ft 1in giant that he is only had to reach out about an inch to grab the ball, as my youngest screamed "Daddy got the ball, Daddy got the ball!"…
