How did 9/11 change America Forever? The morning September 11th, 2001, Americans across the country began their day just as they would on any other Tuesday morning. New York citizens woke up to clear and sunny skies, attending to their daily routines. What was unknown, was that the day they had just begun would be remembered as the Longest, most tragic day in New York’s history when the Twin towers collapsed in a terrorist attack.…
A Great Change Not many events have as much of an effect as this event did. It’s the day, “ the earth stood still,” it’s the day everyone united, and it's the day everything changed. It is 9/11. A tragic day that changed everything, but most of all it gave us hope.…
Have you ever wondered as a little kid as what an ideal world would look like in America? I always thought that the world would be a perfect utopia, flying cars, no crime and food that you can put in the microwave and it instantly cooks. Growing up and getting older, I soon realized that most adults including me don’t look for this in an ideal world. I have come to realize that in my lifetime none of these things I dreamt of as a kid will happen. There are countless flaws in America that is hindering the perfect world.…
Unlike many teenagers I didn’t, have a transition period from childhood to teenage years to adulthood, like so many others here in America might have. My life went from a carefree child to being a mature and responsible adult within a matter of months, and here is how it all started. The fact or the matter is that I was born in a refugee camp in Nepal and life wasn’t easy with death and disease looming everywhere. I roamed the streets as carefree as young kid could. Life was normal as I went to school every day, my dad worked countless hours, and my mother stayed home like so many other women in the community.…
They say the goal in life is to live the “American Dream” and I would say I am living it head first. It all started when the time in my life came to pick an Univeristy to attend, and boy am I ecstatic with my decision to attend West Virginia University. WVU opened so many doors for me; however, if it was not for my family, I would not be where I am today. I was very content with going to my local University and living at home because that was comfortable to me, but my family encourged me to find a new start.…
When I knew that I was gonna come to the United States for the very first time, I had a mishmash of emotions. Excitement was of course present, since I've fancied myself living the American dream. You know, the kind of life you see on TV. So, whenever I come back fresh from the States, wind blows like there's no tomorrow. All I say is how great life is in America.…
Body crouched, holding on to a miniature blanket are the memories that cannot be eased from my head. Low temperature is a constant reminder of my harsh times as a homeless child with not a thing to loose, only an empty stomach behind. Thinking that crossing over would be the most difficult challenge of the “American Dream”. My parents did not come prepared for the far more challenges to come.…
Visions are only unique as the individual themselves who make up this country. America is not the same as it was ten years ago. Who would have thought that we would have cell phones that were similar to a small computer in our pocket, a car that could talk back to us, or that we would have an African American president? Our visions for America could change everyday. My vision for America is very unique for my age group.…
Little bit of Yankee, little bit of Ya’ll. Maybe a catchy t-shirt slogan, but not necessarily untrue. Having lived half my life in both New England and the South, I often feel like a combination of my two home experiences. This can be a little unsettling: up North, I’ve “turned Southern”, but down South, I’m definitely a Northerner. Though sometimes difficult, I’ve grown to like the alternate viewpoints I’ve gained living in different locations.…
One million dollars, that is such a large sum of money. However I wish I would have obtained this money some other way, the money coming into my hands only means that your health is becoming more poor and I shall pray for you. As for the money, I will diligently delegate portions of it to three modern reforms that I feel are in need of it. The time that we’re living in is a great one, I’ve recently heard people calling it a progressive era, and that is a very fitting name. There are many people, muckrakers, politicians, activists who seek to better different aspects of our society.…
My life changed in a blink of an eye, the moment I turned in sixteen years old. My parents told me, that it was better for my future to finish high school in America. I was thrilled, but at the same time I knew coming to America meant starting over. Leaving my country, my family, my friends, and my culture was the hardest thing I had to do in my life. After living two years away from parents, I can say that the sacrifice was worth it.…
I come from a poor family. I never had brand-name shoes or video games, or even a Lisa Frank binder and stickers like my friends at school, but I always had plenty of food in the fridge at home. My family never went hungry in spite of the fact that we were raised by a single mother who made her living as a coffee shop waitress. I did not know, till I was a teenager, that my mom bought the majority of our groceries with food stamps. It never seemed odd to me that she went to the grocery store one time a month and stocked up on milk, sugar, lunchmeat, chicken legs, hamburger meat, and most importantly, coffee.…
“Is it going to happen again?” “Am I safe to leave my home?” many wondered. Everywhere throughout the Nation, airlines stopped their service, the New York Stock Exchange was temporarily halted, and every TV station around the world was reporting on these horrendous attacks.…
My American Dream For centuries, people from different countries have started to migrate to the United States for a better life. This mission of being successful is known for being an American Dream. The American Dream is basically someone who is trying their hardest to become successful in life. Those who come to the United States tend to work the hardest so they can support themselves, their family, and to be happy. For example, someone who worked very hard to support their family and be successful was Notorious B.I.G.…
To be an American is to be able to choose freely. Acts of terror seem to be more and more common, according to the media. In times of terror and strife the citizens of the United States of America come together no matter what beliefs and opinions we have to defeat the opposition. Secondly, America was built on immigrants, and as such we are open to diverse races and beliefs, and Americans consider people they have just met as friends. This is what I believe is my American Identity.…
