My legs were shaking, as I took deep breaths and I clenched my fist and sweat slowly dripped down my face. It was morning practice and the sun was starting to creep over the horizon. The quarterback yelled “hike”, as I snapped back into reality. I began running in the direction of the players in maroon jerseys, looking for one of them to block. I quickly turned, and within seconds I found myself on the ground with no explanation on how I got there.
A coach quickly yelled “get up”, I attempted to stand, only to find that I could not, I was helped to the sideline by another player and they had one of the trainers come to see if I was injured. She checked my leg and told me to try walking, I got up and took a few steps and felt my bones grinding

I could feel the cold, crisp air seeping through my jersey as I watched our struggling defense. Who were jaded and bittered, letting up more than 28 points this game. As our opponent’s defense let up only 24 points. I could feel the tension in the crowd, and in our own teammates. “Touchdown Gators!”…

My experiences over the last six years living in NYC have shaped me into the approachable and compassionate person I am today. I have been immersed in a melting pot with many different culturally and economically diverse populations. These unique experiences have broadened my horizons and allowed me to gain valuable communication skills and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. I searched out opportunities to give back and help the people in my community both in volunteering in hospitals, educating high school students, and interning in private practices. I even traveled with the organization Medlife, setting up a medical clinic to provide basic medical care and education to people in the poor and underserved communities surrounding Lima, Peru.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

Keeping Me On My Toes As I watched my friends race off the ballet barre, their pale pink slippers pattering behind them, I slowly dragged behind, thoroughly exhausted after the two hour class. As if filled with a newfound source of energy, they entered the break room, where brightly colored mesh bags rested across the benches. Enviously, I followed behind them, reluctantly slipping off my own pair of battered ballet slippers, evidence of hours in the practice room. Chattering happily, the girls emptied the contents of their bags and pulled out the satin-covered pointe shoes and proceeded to expertly lace them up their legs. As I sipped from my water bottle, I gazed at the beautiful sight.…
