Who knew that going hiking can be fun and peaceful? Suddenly, my mind was brought back to reality when my aunt uttered, “Hold on, this doesn’t seem right!”
“What?”, my mom asked with a bewildered look on her face. My aunt responded while pointing at a map, “According to this map, this is not what the trail is supposed to look like.” My uncle stepped in and said in an incredulous voice, “Are you saying that we took the wrong trail the whole time?” “Apparently,” replied my aunt, frowning. The adults were talking about the situation and why we couldn’t go back, but I wasn’t paying attention. While they were discussing, thoughts rushed through my head. How long will we be stuck here? I once went on a hike on the Appalachian Trail with my mother. We set off and it started to rain on the first day, and my mom began to complain. By the end of the day, I wanted to jump off the mountain before I pushed her off it. Suffice to say, we were not well-suited hiking partners, due to our different processes; my mother dealt with her grievances by talking about the cold. On the other hand, I was just as miserable, but I attempted to ignore the dismal weather.…

I took a hike on the High Acres nature path, with my Mom, Sister and golden retriever, Tobey. When I first entered the trail, the path started really wide and began to get narrower. Along both sides of the trail were big tall weeds hanging over and rubbing against you. When we were getting close to the pond you could hear the different types of birds chirping, grasshoppers clicking, and bullfrogs croaking. We approached our first intersection, and decided to go left on to the old, white, wooden bridge.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. So, when my father announced that we would be leaving the country to go to Scotland, the home of his and my ancestors, my world began to expand at a rapid pace. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…
