Personal Narrative: The Track Season

Improved Essays
The track season was the hardest most adrenaline filled thing i’ve ever partook in. Everyday at practice we’d run probably two miles total, and that was just the sprinters. The long distance probably ran four or five. Track meets were always very intense, you could feel the electricity in the air. There was a dash of suspense also, it’s suspenseful because you can only do four events, and track meets were about six to seven hours long, and one sprint event only takes like literally a minute. You don’t really get told when the events are, there would just be an announcement and it would be like “RIGHT NOW THEY’RE DOING THE FOUR HUNDRED METER, NEXT UP, THE ONE HUNDRED METER”, Then you’d have to frantically get ready and warm up. My Cross Country/Track coach is one of the best men I know. He not only betters his runners by teaching us, but he also runs with us. Pushing us to greatness with words of encouragement, he implores us to leave all energy on the course/track and teaches us to be exceptional people outside of running. He expresses to us that no matter what we do, he will always be proud of each member of the team; therefore, our actions can’t change his love for us. That’s why it was devastating when he told us before the past track season, that he would not be able to coach for the remainder of the running season from February until we initiated winter conditioning November.…

Growing up, I ran from place to place because I had a patience management problem. I did not like waiting or moving unwillingly slow, but I especially did not like getting somewhere late. Thus, my choice of transportation at the time, due to age limitations, was running. In elementary school, I ran just as much as most kids and just as fast. In sixth grade, I had the opportunity to go out for the track and field team, but I did not.…
