I winced, squirming in my seat, fingering the seatbelt nervously, "Yeah, I guess you're right - maybe I'll be the only one who even shows up..." To be honest, I wasn't expecting any more than 15 hopefuls for a part in The Little Mermaid Jr. Finding this musical theatre audition wasn't easy.. I had to decipher the endless maze of our community theater's ancient website to even find out the location. Which - conveniently, was nearby in my school's auditorium.

Thank goodness I was close to last. I gave a silent dorky fist pump. "Of course, make sure you have your 16 measures of song and your 3 minute memorized monologue ready to share," The self-proclaimed choreographer piped in. "And now," the director began, dramatically twirling her arms with flourish, "Begin! Numbers 1-10 onto the stage." I watched as a mix of teens made their way to front. The first to preform was a stocky 12 year old whose eyes were covered by a mass of messy, bond hair. "Hola dudes! I'm Jake aka the future Prince Eric," his voice oozed with the arrogance, his hands placed casually on his hips. "Alright, start whenever you're ready," the director seemed a

Think about the typical 80's "coming of age" movie set in high school. It opens by introducing the audience to the main character, usually not the most handsome, most popular or athletic teenager. He sees the most beautiful girl in the school and wishes he could be with her. Long story short, he gets the girl, loses the girl and some friends, gets friends back after much ridicule, and rides into the sunset with the girl. Well that’s how my story goes… sort of.…

The night before Tinkerbelle died, when I went to feed her, I put her food in her bowl as usual; she went and looked at it, took a bite and walked away from her food. Because she was the smallest cat, Copper, Callie and Benj never let her have a lot of food, so I had to feed her alone, on top of the workbench just outside the basement door. I was inside feeding my two inside cats Fluffy and Scooter, when I saw Tink fall off the workbench. She landed on her feet, but when she landed her side hit the ground. I ran out to see if she was ok, I knelt down a few inches away from her, and she was about to climb into my lap, but I wanted to make sure she was ok…

In later years, Bennett's claim that A Chorus Line had been his brainchild resulted in not only hard feelings but a number of lawsuits as well. During the workshop sessions, random characters would be chosen at the end for the chorus jobs, resulting in genuine surprise among the cast. Subsequent productions, however, have the same set of characters winning the slots. Marvin Hamlisch, who wrote A Chorus Line 's winning score, recalls how in its first previews audiences seemed put off by something in the story. Actress Marsha Mason told Bennett that Cassie (Donna McKechnie in the original production) should win the part in the end and not lose because she did everything right.…

While standing behind the long, red curtains I begin to do what comes natural; lifting my head as if I am looking above and beyond the ceiling that lies above me with a smile projecting from my face, standing tall with strong energy from my toes to the tips of my fingers and pushing my shoulders back to respectfully greet my judges. The adrenaline pounds in my chest, but confidence over powers and I am nothing but ready to entertain my audience. The loud roars of encouraging chanting and cheering rings in my ears as I walk towards the spotlight that gives off a warm radiant heat where I hit my beginning position.…
