Then there’s “Ode to Joy”, pretty self-explanatory. “Ride of the Valkyries” always inspires me to act, even if the situation does not call for such dramatic music. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn was a delightful read, although I could barely make out most the words. Why was I given this during my freshman year? After watching some gameplay videos for the new ps4 game Until Dawn, I was reminded of a strange term I had once heard, the butterfly effect. Upon seeing this, I decided to do some research to find out more about it. The Chaos theory more commonly called the butterfly effect summarized by Edward Lorenz is a branch of mathematics that deals with complex systems whose behaviour is highly sensitive to slight changes in conditions, so that small alterations can give rise to strikingly great consequences. With this, I thought a many life decisions that I had made, both large and small and thought of how they affected my life and how different my life would be if I had chosen to take another path. I am a Christian and with further thought, came to…

The pain began slowly, pricking me with its sharp needles only while doing barre in ballet once a week. I ignored it, believing it to be normal, common discomfort that would soon go away, typical thoughts of a dancer whose entire sport is centered around “good pain”. Six months later, it had escalated to the degree that every step I took felt like an arrow to my knee. Dancing had become impossible, and it was determined that I should be taken to the orthopedist. The bland, brown and beige lobby became extraordinarily familiar as I waited two hours to be examined.…

“It always seems impossible until it's done.” (Done Quotes). To start with a quote from Nelson Mandela about the impossible is how I began this class, I thought it to be impossible and how I would never reach the end of this class. As I joined in this class I figured my only goals were to finish with a passing grade and hopefully skim through the class enough to complete the course. I had heard stories from older students of the horrors this class brought through long essays and a tremendous amount of class work; nonetheless, I journeyed into the class and was quite astonished to find that the work was not difficult but inspiring and helpful.…

Antebellum experienced rapid societal change stemming from the industrialization and rapid urbanization of north, marking the economic transition to capitalism. With the shift to capitalism, individualism developed from the change in the value of individual labor and nostalgia for the frontier. As the increasingly moral middle-class became more solidified, the wage gap increased, and the northerners became increasingly economically different from the south, the reform impulse grew. Reform impulse borrowed from the rhetoric of the individualism, exploring its discrepancies concerning the working class, women, and both enslaved and freed African-Americans. Individualism and the reform impulse reacted to the rapidly changing northern society.…

In this year's literature class we have read a number of very good books. A few thrilling, gothic classics such as: Frankenstein, and The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I read my first book by famous author Charles Dickens, Great Expectations. To put it nicely, I was not a huge fan of this one, but I definitely appreciate it and am glad that I read it. Another book we read was Leif Enger's Peace Like A River.…
