Personal Narrative: The Stunning Spell By Professor Silvers

Improved Essays
Just like last week, I was nervous about class today. I love learning about dueling, but I have a good heart and I don’t like to hurt people, so learning ways to bind them and freeze them is something I never thought I’d be learning. I wish I could cover my eyes and still be able to cast. Then I wouldn’t see the result! I suppose that means I wouldn’t be able to defend myself either, and would lose every duel… Argh.

Professor Silvers went through The Stunning Spell and the Full Body Bind Curse today, as well as their counters. As I wrote notes with my quill, I became more and more nervous. Professor Silvers reminded us several times that these spells would not harm our opponent, but rather stop them; this didn’t help the twisting in my gut. This week, Professor Silvers wanted us to work in groups of three, so Abi and I partnered with Nicole to form our group. When it came time to practice, we just kind of looked at each other at first; no one wanted to start. Abi finally sighed, raised her wand, and said “Okay, girls, which one of you wants what?” Nicole and I both giggled,

The first one I tried was the Full Body Bind Curse Counter, so that I could unbind Nicole from when I bound her legs and partially bound her arms. I readied my wand, and said “Petrificus Removere!” while flicking up, to the right, and into a clockwise spiral. I focused on loosening her body, allowing her to move, and willed as much energy as I could in order to unbind her. A golden mist emerged from my wand, and surrounded her. As Abi and I watched (Abi from her position sitting on the pillows, having recently awaken from her stun), Nicole’s arms and legs seemed to loosen, and she began to move them a little. Abi and I cheered! Nicole stiffly sat up, and proclaimed that was the weirdest feeling she’d experienced so

In his book “Masterful Living: New Vocabulary for the Holy life” Kevin Mannoia introduces the reader to a new approach in interpreting the idea of holiness. He starts the book by addressing the issues that are related to the misunderstanding of holiness. For him holiness is not a complex idea, rather misinterpretation and misunderstanding have diluted our idea of holiness. As a consequence it has placed holiness into a categories of spirituality, and restrictive behaviors.…

    The Witches Hammer Essay

“The Malleus Maleficarum” , commonly translated to “The Witches Hammer” in the english language, is a book written in 1486 by a man named Heinrich Kramer who was an Inquisitor of the Catholic Church. Jacob Sprenger was also said to have contributed as an author though today some scholars now believe that Jacob Sprenger was only brought into association with the book as a way for Heinrich Kramer to lend the book more official authority. In the year of 1487 the book was first published in Speyer, Germany. The Witches Hammer was written to prove that witches existed, to refute any arguments or doubts about the existence of witches. It explained what witches are(basically satanic heretics who cavort with devils), that they are almost always…

As hard as my relationship was with Thomas, I am grateful for what I learned from being with him. I learned that I am a strong and an independent person. I didn’t need him to make me feel secure and happy. According to Mendenhall (2014), intimacy dances work best when they support both people (Mendenhall, 2014b). I won’t sacrifice myself to a relationship again because the outcome will never make me happy.…

I’ve usually learned in hard way because frankly, I love to challenge myself to expand my personal capacity. Although I had already talked to one of my classmates about having interview with her as a Caucasian woman, I decided to do it with my cousin’s friend, Jacob, who I met in my place for the first time during Thanksgiving holidays. Interviewing Jacob about his interactions with other cultures has made me realize that I have a lot to learn about the meaning of the privilege and holding it. Jacob was a 24-year-old Caucasian, who lived in Missouri his entire life. Though he was visiting California for the second time in his life, he was in a Persian house for the first time.…

Good post. I never thought before to use Dr. Anne Carpenter as the shadow and the Self at the same time. In my opinion, I think Dr. Carpenter is more of like a positive animus for Scully because she was the one who explained to Scully about the mystery of the "Purity Control" government top secret project and just like Deep Throat, she paid dearly for that. Having a scientific mind, it was hard for Scully to believe on something that does not have any proof within her reach. Her scientific mind could be considered as the Shadow for the following reason.…

I have become so sick and tired of this place, some may call it high school, but I call it prison with a view. The gang of misfits weren’t always the gang of misfits, we used to all be alone until today because today is the day I fought for my freedom. Let’s take this story back to the start of freshman year, not too long ago, but feels long enough.…

Today I was able to go back out to see my grandparents over the weekend. I thought it would be an opportunity to go back and return to the forest and see if something has changed or discover something new. I was unable to contact my friend Dana so I went in by myself this time, the weather today was cold. It wasn’t cold where you would have to wear a coat but maybe a sweatshirt, I still feel there is something wrong with the weather since a couple days ago it was hot. I arrive around noon I believe and the lavender tree still didn’t blossom…

For this essay I chose the theme supernatural. Have you ever wanted to be a powerful magician? Here's quote I found from one of Shakespeare's sonnets, "They that have power to hurt and will do none...rightly do inherit heaven's grace's" (Shakespeare, Sonnet 94). Shakespeare's The Tempest shows us that therein us lies magic and can be used to control relationships, environmental elements, and even cause chaos, but also shows that all magic comes with a cost. Even though the play has a comedic and tragic feel with a mix of revenge and forgiveness, its prominent theme is of the supernatural.…
