The Struggles and Success of the Heart
Tris struggled and eventually died to save the memories and lives of hundreds of people before a cruel government could steal them away. Aengus ventured to find his true love and locate the glimmering girl that had stolen his heart. Mr. Rad wanted to escape from Iran and set a new path for his future children and their children... However, all three characters were aspiring to accomplish a mission that was near and paramount in each of their hearts, whether they were searching for true love or improving a life for their family.
Tris was a young woman who was fighting for the lives and memories of hundreds of innocent people. Her goal was to create a better life for the people and places that surround her and she calls her own. Tris felt that it was her responsibility to save the city and she expresses this in the quote, “I have to save the city and the people that my mother and father loved.” (Roth 468) Even though Tris was able to accomplish her goal and save many of the people she loved, her mission came with a price, her life. Tris knew the risk she was taking by undertaking her mission, but since she cared so much about the mission, others around her were able to learn important lessons. Rad was a young Iranian who had a dream of a better life. He looked for a way out of his oppressive country to pave the road to a better life for his family. “My mission was getting to their (America’s) freedom of speech ride and beliefs...I changed and learn more than before ( I) was persistent and (I) never gave up on my goals and future.” In the quote, Mr. Rad is expressing how when he states he “never gave up” he is talking about how he never gave up on the idea of a family, or religious freedom, or the thought of being in the career he had always wanted.
