This I Believe Have you ever rage quit in a game? It feels like you will never beat the level even though you’ve tried a thousand times. Then suddenly, an idea pops into your head and you use the idea to beat the level! This is a prime example of what I believe. I believe that you might have to struggle, before you can get good at something. In this personal narrative, I will be telling you about the time I had to struggle to get good at reading. The story I am about to tell you takes place in first grade. It was winter and I was trying to read a book for homework. I have always hated struggling. My whole life I have been able to pick up on things fast and learn fast. So, when I struggle with something, I get upset and flustered. My struggling story starts …show more content…
She instantly replied, “Sound it out,” while she turned to face me. “I can’t,” I said in a desperate manner, even though I wasn’t even trying. My mom had always helped me with everything. So, when she told me to sound it out but didn’t help me sound it out I got agitated. My mom turned back to the face the TV. When I started to sound it out I stumbled and struggled. It made me mad so in place of the word I would say random crap like “sdfiogykidu” and “kasdgsdghw.” My mom would keep telling me to sound it out and use surrounding words to figure the word out. Eventually, I would figure it out and get the word. In the end, it all worked out because I learned my lesson, you have to struggle to get good at something. Today, I am much better at reading and other subjects. Now, I am less afraid of struggling and get less upset because I know that after I struggle, I will get good at whatever I am doing and it will pay off. In conclusion, I believe that you have to struggle before you can get good at something. I believe this because it has helped me many times to improve and grow. Being okay with struggling is a good thing to learn and will help you more than you

Striving for excellence can inspire someone to be better. For example, Judy in the beginning of training camp almost completely failed at every task, and her instructor told her to just quit. She never gave up, and she kept trying and improving herself to be better than she was when she began. An article written by Hans Wrang, he wrote “Striving for excellence and every day you will see the results of your pursuits as you focus on the incremental improvements you have achieved.” This shows that improving and getting better each and every day is good because there is always something to improve.…

It was not until the summer after my freshman year that I overcame my fear of failure and tried to better myself, and due to this change I am much more comfortable with myself. It took me years of living with doubts of my ability to change myself to try, so it is inaccurate to claim that doubt and change is a causation relationship as Shanley does. I have had innumerable experiences with friends where they doubt their abilities or intellect. Oftentimes instead of that doubt sparking a need for change, it resulted solely in sadness or a desire for solitude. After hours of needless self-loathing and friendly reassurance, then that doubt could turn into a motivator.…

When I was twelve years old I began to take guitar lessons, and I was terrible. After three weeks of lessons I gave up. If I was persistent enough by practicing every day, maybe I would have became a famous guitarist (I said maybe). We have all at some point in our lives given up on something. I feel this is one of my weaknesses because if a situation does not work out in my favor I will give up trying.…

But the main focus is on improving what you do. The biggest struggle I face when it comes to writing is not knowing how to structure and organize a paper. Wondering where and how to start will automatically make me lose my confidence. Sometimes I will take hours trying to figure out how to start the first sentence. There is an emotional stage I go through every time I write a paper, where I have been at it for five minutes…

The Road Not Taken They say that one should never speak of religion, politics, or money in conversation. Sadly, these are the things I love to talk about. For some reason, these topics ignite fires within people, and turn them into instant lawyers- opinionated beasts hellbent on destroying the opposition, and supplementing them with their own reasoning. It always made me wonder: why do these topics make people so passionate about their beliefs?…

However after I accomplish all these things I will need some way to stimulate my brain, because if I did not, I would certainly lose my own sanity, comparable to Chuck Noland from the film Castaway. This is where literature comes into play, by selecting a few pieces of literature I can keep myself from reaching Chuck Noland levels of craziness. So finally I bounced back from my downfall and worked harder than ever to prove that I was going to achieve the absolute best and nothing less in this short period of my life. I went from a measly 3.9 to a 4.2 gpa in just a year, this was due to my drive to better myself in my education and show that I was not about to give up on myself. This taught me that sometimes I may be caught up in situations that affect me profoundly but that does not mean I should surrender when it does not go my way but fight through the hardship and eventually I will become a stronger better person from…
