Personal Narrative: The Story Of Wyatt's Life

On Friday, November 18th at 4:00pm, I arrived at Wyatt’s home. His 12-year-old aunt opened the door for me. As I entered the home I notice that there were far fewer people present. Wyatt was in the living room with his pacifier in his mouth. His 2-year-old cousin, 2 aunts, grandfather, mother and two other children were also at home.
After saying hello to everyone, I went into the bedroom to speak to Wyatt’s mom. Wyatt followed me into the bedroom. He walked over to his toy chest and took cars out. He placed one in his mouth. His mom took the car out of his mom and said: “ Wyatt what sound does the car make?” Wyatt looked up at his mother with a smile on his face. She repeated the question to Wyatt and this time he made a sound with his mouth.

He climbed up on the bed and kissed his mother then climbed back down. His mother told me he does this often. He will randomly just give her kisses. Wyatt mom told the kids it was time to clean up . She sang the clean up song and Wyatt sang along with her as he helped her clean up. After cleaning up the toys we all moved to the living room. Wyatt’s aunt and family friends were in the living room watching videos and dancing. Wyatt got in the middle of them and danced. His aunt brought him a bottle of milk. Wyatt stopped dancing and sat on the floor drinking his milk. After he was finished he went to the kitchen and threw the bottle in the sink. Wyatt found his chair and brought it to the living room. He placedt it in the middle of the room and sat down. Wyatt’s cousin also brought her chair out and sat on it. Both kids have the same chair. Wyatt got upset and cried because he wanted to sit in his cousin chair. His cousin pushed him off her chair. Wyatt’s mom said to him” Wyatt attack” Wyatt went over to his cousin and hit her. She hit him back and he cried even more. I looked at his mom and asked her why did she tell him to attack. She told me that was her word to get him to fight his cousin. She said she needed him to be tough he was surrounded by too many girls. Wyatt continued to cry while rubbing his eyes. I mentioned to his mother that I thought he was tired and it was time …show more content…
I recall having a playdate with Wyatt and my son. During that playdate, Wyatt’s mother was asking my son to take Wyatt’s ball from him because she wanted him to fight with my son to get the ball back. I am still trying to understand why she would use those types of tactics to get a reaction from Wyatt. Wyatt was very upset when the ball was taken from him, like he cried when the cousin hit him after he was commanded by his mother to hit her first.
His mother believes because he is a boy he should be tough. That is a stereotype perpetuated by our society. Wyatt’s mom mentioned she did not like him playing with his cousin 's girl toys. In her way, she is over masculinizing Wyatt, instead of letting him naturally develop into his own person. Her goal is to make him tough, a
