You would think people who have next to nothing in their lives, would want everything they could have their hands on. After spending a week with people who had less then me, I understood that I was completely wrong. I learned that people who have nothing are the most caring and empathetic. The people who lived at the camp we were staying at, greeted us with open arms and warm hearts. As a mission team, we were obviously caring people.…
Not everyone has the chance to ride the Kennedy space center simulator but my opportunity came today. No more videos, it’s going to be the actual ‘thing. We walked onto a ramp that brought us to a green screen where we obtain our picture taken, and after the ride they gave us a chance to buy the picture where they edited an orange astronaut suit on us. I continued to run up and around the twist of the ramp leaving my aunt and uncle behind me. The few people in line gathered at the top of the ramp, and the waiting time went by fast since no one wanted to stand in line.…
Sally Ride, born, as Sally Kirsten Ride was a physics professor and the first American female to become an astronaut. During her childhood she was intrigued by any activity that involved athleticism in addition to physics and space. These interests later proved to be extremely beneficial in her adult life. Though her parents encouraged her to push through gender norms; she faced adversity from her peers. However, she was unmoving in the face of this adversity and worked hard through college and into her adult life.…
I have not been thinking differently but I am surely endeavoring. I have an arduous time changing things about myself so at this point I am just gradually endeavoring. After reading these two chapters I endeavor to disunite my emotions from my thinking due to the fact that they incline to get me into an abundance of trouble. Prior to making decisions, I stop and notice first if I am allowing my emotions to get in the way. I ascertain no emotions are tied to my decisions just so at the end I get a good outcome.…
“I’ll be Froggy and you can be Ballie,” my best friend, Jillian Creighton told me. Six years ago, the two of us had sat in her living room, holding two items. Eight-year-old Jillian was holding an oven mitt that looked like a frog, and I was holding a colorful beach ball. We began to film ourselves, creating movies together: “The Adventures of Froggy and Ballie!” To this day, we still talk about these silly videos.…
I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…
It was a blistering, cold evening as my dad and I neared the arena, and rows of cars blocked the streets as thousands of Rockets fans crowded into the parking garage. My first Rockets game was nearing tipp-off, and I was bursting with excitement as my dad and I piled out of his gold colored Nissan Titan. Wearing my white Tracy McGrady jersey that went down to my knees and blue jeans, and having my Rockets banner in hand, we walked down multiple flights of stairs to the bottom of the concrete structure.…
Darwin Theodore Troy Turner, in many ways was a man that encompasses everything that I aspire to be as a human being. He was a poet, a phenomenal professor, a avid literary critic, a pioneer in African-american studies, an editor, a published author and even a undergraduate and PhD earner. One of the most astounding aspects of these accomplishments, in my opinion, is the fact that Darwin Turner was able to attain these incredible things during a period in time where race and color played not only an important but an essential part in determining one's success in life. He lived in a time where the color of his skin was most definitely detrimental to his success yet he not only prospered but triumphed over the many barriers he must have faced…
In 1986, the world experienced a tragedy that had lasting effects on many people, myself included. While at the young age of nine years old at the time, I can still remember that day as though it was yesterday. That day, schools had closed in my county due to snow. I was home, flipping through the television when I came across a news broadcast about the impending launch of the Space Shuttle Challenger. I do not remember if I had knowledge of the space program before that day, but something that day piqued my interest.…
Hello, I am Nasario. I am the second oldest of three offspring and my name was gifted to me by my parents for being the first male child. Consequently, I proudly carry my father’s name. If I were to describe myself, I would say that I am the type of person who loves to help and support others, as well as being a courteous young man. The reason that I define myself as this person is because I truly like to assist people.…

I earned 5 hours for action for this activity as I visited the Kennedy Space Center on December 28th. Not only did did my family purchase annual passes again, but as a Christmas present to my dad, we had dinner with an astronaut. This is where you are provided dinner and an astronaut gives a speech about their space travels and answers questions from the audience. The Space Shuttle astronaut we had discussed his three flight missions to the International Space Station. This was an interesting experience and learned a lot about Space Shuttle travel.…
There are a couple of obstacles that have played a major role in me becoming who I am today. I've had naysayers trying to negatively influence my thoughts, and crush my dreams by saying that said I will never amount to anything, or that I should give up on my dreams and get realistic with my goals. A couple years ago I was a completely different person. I was out of shape physically, my academic performance was very poor, and I had a terrible attitude. I improved greatly in athletics and my academic career.…
I think I’m a pretty easygoing and friendly person and I think living here in Los Alamos has made me that way. Growing up in a small town has given me a view that I couldn’t get from living in a big city. I live in Los Alamos New Mexico. One of the first things people notice when they get here is how dry the air is.…
On March 1st NASA had picked me to go on a mission. The mission as to take photos of Venus, Jupiter, and pluto. I left planet Earth to go to Venus on March 5.
