But of course, it had to be thunder storming. I knew she would be fine until it has been ten minutes since I asked her to get the spoon. I told myself that she was probably still looking for it, so I should go help look in the shed too. But the minute I took a step outside, I saw her laying on the ground. It was a very frightening sight, and it was obvious she was dead. When I saw the metal spoon in her hand, I knew she was struck by lightning.

You would think people who have next to nothing in their lives, would want everything they could have their hands on. After spending a week with people who had less then me, I understood that I was completely wrong. I learned that people who have nothing are the most caring and empathetic. Not everyone has the chance to ride the Kennedy space center simulator but my opportunity came today. No more videos, it’s going to be the actual ‘thing. We walked onto a ramp that brought us to a green screen where we obtain our picture taken, and after the ride they gave us a chance to buy the picture where they edited an orange astronaut suit on us. I continued to run up and around the twist of the ramp leaving my aunt and uncle behind me. The few people in line gathered at the top of the ramp, and the waiting time went by fast since no one wanted to stand in line.…

“I’ll be Froggy and you can be Ballie,” my best friend, Jillian Creighton told me. Six years ago, the two of us had sat in her living room, holding two items. Eight-year-old Jillian was holding an oven mitt that looked like a frog, and I was holding a colorful beach ball. We began to film ourselves, creating movies together: “The Adventures of Froggy and Ballie!” To this day, we still talk about these silly videos.…

I was only 14 when I went on my mission trip, but experiencing that such a young age has shaped me for who I am. I was involved in three mission trips, which all occurred in the States, but in all three-mission trips I helped people who I believe needed it most. I was proud of what I did and I think it was something that not a lot of people did at my age. One of my biggest motivators were the people I was helping. After going on my first trip, I had bonded with others and had made me realize what the real world is like outside a small town in Iowa.…

My first Rockets game was nearing tipp-off, and I was bursting with excitement as my dad and I piled out of his gold colored Nissan Titan. Wearing my white Tracy McGrady jersey that went down to my knees and blue jeans, and having my Rockets banner in hand, we walked down multiple flights of stairs to the bottom of the concrete structure.…

Darwin Theodore Troy Turner, in many ways was a man that encompasses everything that I aspire to be as a human being. He was a poet, a phenomenal professor, a avid literary critic, a pioneer in African-american studies, an editor, a published author and even a undergraduate and PhD earner. One of the most astounding aspects of these accomplishments, in my opinion, is the fact that Darwin Turner was able to attain these incredible things during a period in time where race and color played not only an important but an essential part in determining one's success in life. He lived in a time where the color of his skin was most definitely detrimental to his success yet he not only prospered but triumphed over the many barriers he must have faced…
