October of 2012 not only made history in the United States, but made history for my life. It was the time when Hurricane Sandy occurred, one of the deadliest hurricanes in US history. At home, before the hurricane began, my parents were not on good terms. I could feel an uncomfortable tension rising, especially in the house. Day by day I would feel them separating more.Before I go any further, let me tell you a little about my parents and their relationship. I ended up going, as always. Ever since I was little my dad would always take me around to whatever errands he had to run. He has always been taking me wherever he goes.
Hurricane Sandy ran through the news day and night with updates of the storm and information of its arrival to our area. All that was on our mind was preparation for this storm, and possibly other storms coming along with it. We had everything we needed and just came back from shopping for groceries and for anything else we could have needed incase of an emergency. My parents began to sleep in separate rooms at night, so my brother would sleep in his room, my dad ended up sleeping in my room, and I had to go sleep with my mom because we simply don’t have any extra bedrooms.
As I jumped into bed, where my mom happened to be laying watching tv, I ask her in the most sincere way without making her angry, “Mom, why are you and dad not sleeping together? It’s been a few days and it feels different. Not necessarily because I don’t have my room, but because you two are my parents and should be together.”
My mom sighed. She seemed tired, not so much physically, but mentally as
