Personal Narrative-The Stereotypes Of Animals And Girls

Improved Essays
You would probably expect that when a pet store says you have all females, you have all females, but alas, not with us. Of course it shouldn’t be that bad, right? Most animals only have like, 5 babies, well what if I were to tell you we have three mice, two of which are female. If you’re sticking with the previous sentence that would only be about, ten, babies, about that, mice have on average seven too, I don’t know, twenty babies. You can do the math yourself, for now I’ll just tell you the story.

I rubbed the little gray mouse against my cheek as I looked around the plywood walls, my eyes resting on the little brown and red mouse running so fast her tiny feet were a blur.
“Run boi, run.”

Negative attitudes and stereotypes are a part of society; they become bigger issues when these thoughts and beliefs turn into actions, such as discrimination and aggression. Over the last decade strides have been made to change societal ideals and norms but research shows discrimination among particular groups remains high. The results of a study done by The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force shows that members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) community experience high rates of discrimination and violence (Grant et al., 2011). Theories on the formation of attitudes and stereotypes include Social Learning, Social Cognition, Implicit Association. “Women have it harder than men… Women aren’t treated equal… Society is dominated by men”. Has society even thought that maybe men don’t have it as easy as society thinks? To the ones who believe asking, “What are you?” is a valid conversation starter, I am multiracial and proud, but to simplify my ethnicities to others when asked, I identify myself as Asian. I was stereotyped because of how we are perceived in media and society. I spent years cowering in my own skin because others made me believe I was not Asian because of the size of my eyes, the color of my hair, and my personal interests. I was ashamed of what I looked like since I was convinced it embodied who I am as a person.…

Without delay, Francine Prose’s Hansel and Gretel adaptation caught me off-guard and drew me with an extraordinary introduction sentence. Many questions popped into my head as I finished reading that line and I had to go online to find the answers, dealing if having sex with an animal is illegal. I need a stronger word to describe how I felt about the information I uncovered about Beastiality/Zoophilia because disturbed doesn’t cut it. After reading the information, I sat there with my jaw hanging open; maybe it’s because of how my parents raised me, but I may love my cat yet doing anything sexual with her doesn’t make sense to me. At first glance, Zootopia seems like your average kids movie. Cute, unique characters, a bright and colorful story, lighthearted dialogue and issues. One could easily brush it off as just another ‘dumb movie for little kids’ and move on without another look back at it. But Zootopia is much more than that, with much bigger issues and deeper meanings. Using stunning visuals, amazing dialogue, and beautiful lighting, Zootopia tackles one of the most controversial issues in the country—racism—in a way that the whole family can understand and learn from.…

In “Female Chauvinist Pigs,” the author Ariel Levy writes on her point of view as to how she feels about women who abide by raunch culture. Levy believes women have to identify with several different gender stereotypes in order to participate in raunch culture. Gender stereotypes refer to simplistic generalizations of gender attributes and roles of individuals or groups. They may also be positive or negative but hardly disclose accurate information of others and reflect judgement. In addition, she categorizes the two different types of women which she considers participate in raunch culture, as one being the female chauvinist pig and the other being the “girly-girl” in order to support her arguments.…

In Patricia McKissack 's version of the Little Red Riding Hood tale entitled “Flossie and the Fox”, the reader is introduced to Flossie a young ill-educated little girl who is sent by her grandmother to deliver eggs to “Miz Viola” (McKissack). Early in the tale it is easily assumed that Flossie is a naive little girl as she asks her grandmother “How do a fox look? I disremember ever seeing one” (McKissack). Unsure what a fox actually looked like, when the protagonist encounters an unknown critter she faced him head on, “ nodding a greeting the way she had been taught to do” (McKissack). In this tale the critter is forthcoming that he was indeed a fox expecting to invoke fear in the mere child as he is accustom.…
