Personal Narrative: The Stamp Act

I am Andrea Hunts and I am eight years old. It was just a normal day at home with my mommy and daddy on March 22nd, 1765. Mommy and Daddy were reading the newspaper in our small kitchen when they were really upset about something. I could tell because my parents threw the newspaper on the table. I asked my mommy what was wrong and she said “The Stamp Act and the British taxing anything with paper.” I did not understand what she was saying at the time so I looked at the newspaper and there was a new message from King George lll. It said “You will now be paying taxes on any piece of paper you use. You will do this because someone needs to pay for the cost of the French and Indian War and keeping soldiers in North America.” I now understood what was going on. I could see why they were making the families pay, but that is just not fair. I know that someone has to pay but the cost was just too much for the families to give. Mommy and Daddy were angered about this; if there is one thing I know about my parents then they will not put up with this. My parents will not give up on making this right. Mommy and Daddy told me they were going to the farmers market. There was a whole stack of newspapers that no one bought. Usually, by the time my family and I get here, they are all gone. Dad did not get one so I gave him a questioning look. I guess he seen that because he looked at me and said “Not anymore, Sweetheart. It cost to much anymore”.
