Personal Narrative: The Stage Of A Hero's Journey

Decent Essays
The stage of a hero's journey I associate with to the most is stage five. I associate with this because I meet new people every day and some turn out to be a whole lot friendlier than others. As a result of this, I have made numerous allies and enemies throughout the years.

One example is that in second grade I was transferred to another class along with two other girls. Those two girls ended up being my best friends for six years.Unfortunately, one of the girls betrayed our trust and hurt us in ways no friend should thus becoming an enemy. The next example takes place in Southwood middle school. In six grade there was a tension between a girl and I. We didn't get along very well which lead to several awkward conversations. In seventh grade,

Over the years and years spent on studying mythology, Joseph Campbell came up with the concept of The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey states that all hero’s travel in a similar path and go through many similar stages that’ll lead them to their reward. However, not every hero’s journey has to involve obstacles as in slaying a dragon or trying to save the world. In my case, I had to do nothing but trying to make it through sixth grade year. Sadly, sixth grade was the year that I faced the most challenges, real world challenges at least.…

As a child growing up in Rhode Island, the smallest state in the Union, the idea of a vast planet brimming with civilization and culture was more like something out of a fairy tale than it was reality. This trip could not have been timed more perfectly. The summer of 2007 marked the end of fourth grade, my first year at Saint Mary Academy Bay View.…

My Junior year of high school, two best friends on my cheerleading team had a falling out and the events between them greatly affected their ability to work together. We were all members of the same stunt group along with another girl who was unaware of the problem. In practice, none of our stunts were working very well because both girls were putting less energy into the lifting me so the other would have to put more into it. I was not aware that they had a falling out, but after being dropped on the floor multiple times, I took them aside to talk to them. They refused to talk to me together, so I talked to them one on one.…

Joseph Campbell, the creator of the hero’s journey, did a lot of research on ancient mythology. He discovered that many heroes travel the same paths to becoming a hero. Campbell decided that heroes come across many challenges that are put into stages and in those stages the hero grows closer to the reward at the end. I am definitely not a hero, but my journey of finding Christ and giving my life to him has absolutely made me into a better person overall. As I look at my journey of finding Christ, I see that it has many similarities to Campbell’s Hero’s Journey.…

Heroes come in all shapes, sizes, cultures, ethnicities, genders and backgrounds. While some heroes slay dragons, die in battle, or pull a sword from a stone, others fight cancer, protest for civil rights or being a single parent. All heroes go through the same phase whether in life or in a well written novel. They face challenges, gain a mentor, falter, overcome opposition and return back home. This cycle is called the Hero’s Journey, an eleven step outline to become a hero of any story.…
