Do you want to know how I grew up from a small town in Iowa to the best football player and coach? When I was about 8 I started playing football. I was the best linebacker in high school and college football. I was the 1st, 1st round pick in the NFL draft. Retired and became the best football coach in history.…
On 05/12/17 at 6:48pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian was dispatched to the area of W 5th Ave and Highland St on a dog at large, patrol only. I arrived in the area and saw a unknown male and female playing with a white medium mix dog and a boxer in a field. I stopped and exited my vehicle and approached the individuals. They indicated that they are the ones that called about the boxer running loose. I returned to my vehicle and retrieved my snare pole and doggie treats.…
Each day of wrestling i got better and better and by getting better you have to also…
I started wrestling for the Smithville Youth Wrestling Club. At the time I was in the fifth grade and I was 12 years old. At first I hated the idea of wrestling because of the tight singlet you had to wear, and also the idea of people making fun of you because of “rolling around with other guys”. Plus to make thing worse a lot of the other kids there have already wrestled since they were 5 which gave them more experience. I remember coming home from practice and just hating wrestling because it was hard work…
“Jadyn, you look like you need to wrestle!” , My Dad would yell before he would grab me a tickle me. “Come on #2! Hit the ball hard!” , He’d yell before I would serve.…
Sometimes in life you arrive at a place or a time, either physically or mentally, to which the extent of the journey is not immediately obvious. Always aware of the destination, yet focused more on immediate challenges, at some point you look up and realize just how far you have gone, and think “How did I get here?” This essay is a brief chronicle of my personal journey into the ranks of Tang Soo Do toward Cho Dan, of how Tang Soo Do philosophy has incorporated itself into my life, and what it means to me to become a part of the Tang Soo Do black belt community. I’ve never been very good at sports. It didn’t seem to matter whether the sport was an individual or team effort; most of my sporting endeavors have been short-lived to say the least.…
I would like for you to get to know me a little bit better. I'm going to tell you just a few of my passions. You can tell a lot about someone by their interests. Growing up I’ve always been raised around sports. Basketball it was the Denver Nuggets until Allen Iverson and Carmelo Anthony traded teams.…
The time I fell off my friend’s trampoline, and broke my arm. I was 11 years old I my friend Pete and his sister were playing football outside. So after we played football we decided to go inside to relax, and get some water.…
The kids I were wrestling felt stronger, were harder to take down, and I struggled with my coordination. As a result of myself not adapting to these changes, I found myself wrestling JV for the first time in my life. It was heartbreaking…
The time I quit the wrestling team was a really crazy moment in my life. It all came down to what I wanted to do for that year in particular, when I quit I had thoughts about returning or coming back later but I knew nothing was permanent. After joining back it helped me in school a little bit but also set me back in some ways a lot as well. Coach Staggs was the main person who made me feel bad for quitting and also made me not want to do it. He was more on the aggressive side and did not want me to quit how I wanted to quit which was all at once.…
Unlike other sports you can literally not be good at wrestling if you are not mentally tough. Now what do I mean by the term mentally tough? Mentally tough means you are able to push past what your mind may be telling you or what your body feels like and is telling you. That even when you have 30 yards left to sprint and your brain and body say you can no longer go you push through and keep going. You rise early to go workout instead of staying in to sleep because you are tired.…
I started my football career at the age of eight and fell in love with it ever since. I was involved in a flag football program for a couple of years till i wanted to play tackle football. The only problems with me playing tackle football was my parents fear of me getting hurt.…
Do you ever think about the sport you’re really good at, and like doing, then get injured so you couldn’t do it anymore? Neither did I until it happened before wrestling practice as we were warming up when I broke my collarbone. This all started the day after Thanksgiving at wrestling practice. We were warming up playing basketball and if someone didn’t make it you had to start sprinting for the ball.…
Throughout my short life journey, soccer has been an enormous part of my life. I began playing soccer at a young age; this is the point in my life when I fell in love with the sport. As I grew older soccer became less of a hobby, and more of a lifestyle. Today, I am literate in the sport of soccer, because I have proficient skills, and a firm understanding of the game. I consider myself very soccer savvy, however the most important literacies I have acquired from soccer were the life skills of hard work, dedication and perseverance.…
It started at the end of 7th period . The feeling you have when you know something amazing is going to happen. As the bell rings letting us know that we need to go to the cafeteria.
