Life is just like a game of tennis. You lose points, you win points, you overcome struggles, and you can even come back to win in the end after you had been losing most of the match. Tennis has been one of my struggles in life, one of my struggles to succeed, but I don’t play competitive tennis anymore. I’m not on the club team, playing for any college, and at this time, not even intramural. How has tennis helped me and why do I still care about it?

Lets go back to when I was in eighth grade, which seems like an eternity ago now. I was scrawny, unathletic, and had no really push or drive towards succeeding in sports. I was originally forced by my parents onto the tennis court. But soon, I found a love and passion for the game. I decided to set a difficult goal for myself: to make the high school tennis team with only a year of practice. Now for most schools in my area, this wouldn’t have been a problem, I would have been able to practice for a little bit, and still make the team. But no, my high school was a school at which everyone on the team was a good player, and knew strategy, and had at least been playing for four years before the time where we had to try out.

I had plenty of people tell me that even if I worked every day and tried my best to reach my goal, that it was not possible for a guy like me to make the team. I believe they were referring to my unathleticism, But I did not let them stop me. Making the tennis team would surely be a struggle, but I knew that if I really wanted something and I strove for it and tried my best, that I could reach this goal, no matter what anyone said to
