Personal Narrative: The Sport Of Cross Country

Superior Essays
On your marks...Bang! That is the sound of the gun going off, and hundreds of kids running like a stampede to one destination, the finish line. Many people think that Cross Country is just a hard sport to do and think why would someone want to run for fun. Well, it isn’t fun, and it is hard, but the friends that I have made in the sport, are some that I will never forget. It’s not just that, but it is a sport that helps, whether it’s getting someone in shape, or helping them realize that they can do anything if they set their minds to it. For instance, Michael Gleeson could not have broken the school record without putting a lot of hard work. I don’t think I would be the person I am today without the my teammates helping me. Friendships that I have made throughout the years, have made me the person that I am today. …show more content…
But I do it because I think it is the one thing that I can do to get away from all of the school work and work and all the stress that home and school put on me. When I am running, it’s like, i’m free, and I can just go anywhere, focusing and concentrating on what I am doing this very moment, everyone thinks about what their day is going to be like tomorrow or the next day. But when I am running, it stops, I just let go. The best part of all, are the races that I get to do with my team. During the race, when I see someone in front of me, I think about one thing, catch him. When I do, I go on to the next one, then the next, and the next. Then eventually I’m in the top twenty, top ten. But I don’t think it’s the winning part that I like about it the best, however I do like to get a medal every once in a while, but that's not the point, the point is, is that I like to run because it is just something that I am good at, and hopefully continue on with it in the

The thing about running is that you hate it until it’s over, at least for me that’s true. Personally, I like running, and it gives me a chance to get out and work towards something. All throughout high school, I’ve run track, and for two years I ran cross-country, both are great sports. The two years I ran cross-country made me wish I ran all four years. If you’re part of more than one sport, it’s natural to choose a favorite.…

I once thought I couldn’t believe in myself! I felt as if I were nothing but a sheet of glass that was completely useless. When there were gloomy days, I felt like broken glass that was scattered all over the ground and I wouldn’t be fixable. So I thought if I joined a sport, I would then, have no choice but to believe that I can do more and accomplish more, and be better than whom I was! When I was little I loved to run…

High school Track and Field was a sport that I participated in as a sophomore. Through the strenuous practice and the intense track meets, hard work was not the only lesson to learn. Even when you were pushing yourself to defeat the person running at a pace you are not used to, hard work was not the only thing you thought that would make you win the race at the very end. You learn that you must have it in yourself to finish the race. You also see that your whole team is supporting you and shouting your name.…

My team gives me a reason to lift my feet quicker and higher even when I feel gravity and my own negativity pulling me down. I have gained a sense of responsibility; that this sport is not just about my race and my own times, but about the team and scores as a whole, and no matter how much I want to stop and end the pain, I must keep going for my team. This sport has helped me to find my niche and has left me surrounded by people who have become closer than family. Today, I am a very different person than that quiet little girl that struggled through simple 30 minute runs, and I have loved every second of the path that lead me here. Running is so much more than a sport; it is a way of life that I have come to fully…

My personal statement My crossroads of my college track and field career came early in my second year. In conclusion of my fifth day of training, in eighty-two degree heat, our sprints instructor decided to condition the entire group. Severe, unbearable pain jolted up my quads as he called us repetitively to the line to run 300 Meter sprints. I crumpled as I turned the final sprints corner. Muscle spasms increased all over my body, shortly passing out.…

“Runners on your mark…Set...Poww!” Those were the last sounds I heard during what could have been my last race of my sophomore year in collegiate Track and Field. It was a frisky, yet cool Saturday in April and after a strong performance in the previous indoor and outdoor season (4x100m and 400m), I was determined to continue and uphold my strong form on this day. There is a saying that things do not always turn out the way we hope, but I believe, there is always a positive lesson to be learned from every life event. I love sports.…
