Personal Narrative: The Son Of Liberty

So carefully, after waiting until I knew Ma wasn’t going to wake up, I crept outside into the winter air that was as cold yet placid, and began to walk to the harbor. Walking along the main street that lead straight to where the Sons of Liberty, and my Pa, were gathering before going to the harbor. The location was unknown to anyone outside of the Sons of Liberty, but Pa had spoken to a fellow Son of Liberty and I just happened to hear every word, including the location of the meeting.
It wasn’t until I spotted a redcoat when I realized that the redcoats would for sure get me in trouble me if they spotted me past the 10:00 pm curfew. I tiptoed back into my house and changed into few of my Pa’s old clothes, and stealthily crept back out side.

When I thought of disguise that Pa would wear for this rebellion I immediately thought of feather headdress’ and elaborate costumes, but after contemplating why they didn’t wear this I came to the realization that having bright and big disguises would just attract more attention. After wasting time coming to that amazing realization, I sprinted after the Sons of Liberty that had left me to go to the harbor, and tried to find my Pa, to make sure that Josiah was correct when he said that all of the men had costumes. I reached the harbor shortly after the main lot of men had, and looked around for my P’s familiar gait, and stature until I spotted him. At first I wasn’t sure if it was him because he had a disguise (Thanks the Heavens) , but when I drew closer I knew it was him because of his birthmark on his left hand. I rushed over, about to embrace him, when I realized that I would be punished severely if he found out that I was out past curfew, and especially if he found out that I was at this Sons of Liberty “excursion”. So instead of walking up to him, I just stayed in eyeshot of him so I could make sure that he was …show more content…
I immediately recognized who the voice belonged to. It belonged to the man in charge of this whole thing, Samuel Adams. He was directing the group of men, but I couldn’t make out his exact words over the chatter of everyone. I didn’t getting much else except for the word, “board”. There was a flood of men that started heading for the boats the Dartmouth, the Eleanor and the Beaver.
Flashback-
My Pa was furious. It had something to do with British ships coming to the colonies and not returning when they were asked (demanded) to. The Sons of Liberty talked to the governor of Massachusetts, who was appointed by the British, but he would not permit the ships to leave. My Pa said something to my Ma that was along the lines of “if they aren’t going to leave, then we are going to do something about it.
Present-
I didn’t understand what he was talking about before, but know I did. The three ships, the Dartmouth, the Eleanor and the Beaver, were the ships that didn’t leave when the Sons of Liberty asked them to. And the thing that my father(and presumably the Son’s of Liberty) was going to do about it was dump the ship's

The British had been continuously and aggressively aggravating American ships even when America was inside its own harbors. Not only were the ships being harassed, but they were also straight up attacked by the British. The pro-war faction of the US clearly made a very compelling argument, as the US did the right thing and went to war with British in 1812. American ships were being captured and destroyed by the British. The citizens aboard those American ships were often slaughtered when the ships were destroyed.…

One habit of the Royal Navy during the beginning of the 19th century, known as impressment, was to force crewmembers on American vessels to enlist in the Royal Navy by claiming them as English deserters, as there was at the time no way to distinguish Americans from British (Heidler). These acts constituted a military effort against the United States, which was at the time immoral because the United States was neutral, not a French ally. The British took their military pressure one step further, however, by blockading United States shores to prevent trade with the French and even killing Americans on ships in United States waters (Taylor 29). As the United States was at the time a neutral nation, the British never should have been blockading the United States to prevent trade from occurring as the United States was not involved in the war at all, let alone opening fire on American trade vessels in United States seas. By committing such egregious actions as forcing Americans into Royal Navy service and opening fire on American trade vessels, Great Britain refused to respect the neutral rights of the United…

The new tax, called the Townshend Act, imposed taxes on imported goods from Britain. In response, the Sons of Liberty again boycotted British goods. Now, throughout Boston and other cities, British troops had been stationed to enforce the Townshend Act at ports and to protect custom officials. Tensions between British soldiers and local patriots quickly rose after Britain seized a ship named “Liberty.” Shortly after, patriots knew Britain was trying to dominate the American colonies.…

The “Sons of Liberty” were selfish enough to destroy their competition ,and were fanatics who burned and vandalized homes. The Sons of Liberty didn’t hold the Boston Tea Party to help the colonists. The tea they dumped into the harbor, was tea that was for the colonists, and was going to be sold at the same price as the illegal tea the “Sons of Liberty” were selling. The real reason for the tea party was to get rid of their competition. The “Sons of Liberty” burned and vandalized people’s homes.…

Therefore, the colonies not only had to use their own money on the soldiers that were never welcomed but now the money that was suppose to be handed to them to help feed their families were now going to be given and used by the unwelcomed guests. The result from all these incidents and arrangements were the cause of colonists wanting and feeling a need to provoke the British in order to feel more independent or in control.
