One cool fall day a new family moved into the small town of Skidmore, Missouri. Skidmore is one of those small towns where everyone knows each other. Not one family has moved in or out of Skidmore in over twenty years. The Smith family bought the ole’ Miller mansion. They knew it would need some renovations, but decided to move in while they updated the already gorgeous home. Moving away from everything you know is scary, but moving in the middle of the school year as a freshman only makes it that much worse. Since Skidmore is such a small town the Smiths had neighbors coming over all the time to introduce themselves. The freezer and fridge were packed full of homemade meals and desserts before the Smiths had even had a chance to go grocery shopping. Emma started to feel more at home the more neighbors she met. To her they all seemed nice, but one neighbor …show more content…
Emma got home and could not wait to get her hands on some decorations. The gorgeous double staircase made for a perfect focal point of the room. The old wooden floors and architectural design made for a decoration in itself. After all the decorations were hung and the house was ready for the party Emma headed up to her room. She had longed for her bed all day and once she fell upon it, she was surrounded by comfort. Emma was almost asleep until she heard a noise that sounded to her like someone crying for help. Emma thought the sound was in her head because she had not had much sleep and ignored it.
Saturday October thirty-first was finally here. Emma had been counting down the days since last year's halloween. She dug eagerly through the pile of boxes searching for her Halloween costume and makeup. After a few hours of preparation Emma was ready for the party. She was positive she would win the costume contest at the party tonight with her realistic makeup and clothing. She knew she would be the best Zombie

What did you just say he asked with a smirk slightly visible on his pale face. That was the greeting I received from my roommate on the first day of freshmen year at the ohio state university. I honestly didn’t understand what was so amusing so I repeated myself again to his amusement. What I would soon discover is that my roommate and many of the other students at OSU make snap decisions about my intelligence based on the way I speak being from southern Ohio meant I say things differently and they assume my accent demonstrates that I am not as smart as them. My response was to change the way I spoke.…

Excitement filled the air as it was the beginning of a new era. As I passed the Chick-fil-a parking lot, I noticed that it was not filled to its usual capacity. I had finally arrived at my destination that I had longed for many months. Cars were filed around the building twice and occupied the entire parking lot down to Value City Furniture, as police were needed to help regulate traffic.…

The 51 bus moves slowly, rumbling wearily down the road, huffing and puffing like my old Grandpa. I don't care. Its a beautiful morning- dappled sunlight streak through the leaves of the Puriri that line the road on either side, and a cloudless sky rolls overhead. I lean against the dirty window, gazing up at the large blue expanse. It blows my mind, because I feel as though there is too much beauty in that beautiful blue oblivion, endless and overwhelming.…

Shattered Dreams Harriet gatherers her belongings and grasps a small assortment of pennies and dimes into her weary brown hands as the bus drew up to a standstill, she slowly makes her way down the aisle carefully handing them over to the driver. As she steps off the bus and into the crisp, dark night she pulls her coat tighter around her body to shelter her from the cold. Ordinarily, the few cents she saves by walking extra blocks is worth the sacrifice, but tonight the frost-bound wind combined with the extra hours spent working makes her tired body and aching and feel older than its 22 years. She turns down dimly lit street indicating she was almost home and trudges her way across the uneven grass onto the small concrete pathway leading to her door. Harriet pushes open the creaking door, closing it with a loud bang behind her.…

We can’t be moving!” were comprised in the numerous words and feelings I had when I was informed by my parents in seventh grade that they were building a new house and that we would be moving. She walked along the winding, worn out trail. The autumn leaves of the willow dance above her head as the cool breath of the evening air tickled her freckled cheeks. She looked up peacefully at the blue sky that waited for night to come, and soaked in the array of colors that overlaid the hilly landscape. About a mile down the stretch, she could see the small lake where her father and her would go fishing. Despite never catching much when she did it was always little pan fish that were enough to satisfy her efforts.…
