A weakness that I have is that I do not know how to say no to individuals that ask me for help since I love to help people. It is important that I learn to say no when helping others gets in the way of me accomplishing my tasks. It is important that I do both, but not when I run the risk of not meeting my deadlines and me staying late hours after work to get my work done. It has not been an easy task saying no, but I am learning to be okay with saying no because it is important that it does not interfere with my responsibilities.…

Zero, zero is the number of push-ups I could do at the beginning of the year. It was really pathetic and I was really embarrassed that I couldn’t even do one. I went home and looked at what the average push-ups a 13 year old boy should be able to do, it was 13, a lot more than I could do obviously. Now I can do 13 without collapsing. That is why I feel I grew in upper body muscular endurance this year in Wellness & Fitness.…

“Congratulations!!” read one post on a friend’s Facebook wall, the day after she landed an office job in her field. “So amazing!” read another. “Are you ready for your big-girl job?” asked a third well-wisher, accompanied by a GIF of Amy Poehler as Leslie Knope. “I can’t believe I finally have a real job” was the text she sent me a few days later, from the comfort of her desk, where she had been hired to do operations work for an organization she had once, a few years prior, interned for.…

During this semester I have learned multiple things in my class GSW 1110, I learned the skills to research, write, using correct grammar and syntax, as well as setting goals to improve my skills as a writer. Through class exercises and writing the different types of papers, I was able to learn those skills. Skills such as having better vocabulary by using a few new words. Another goal is having a better flow throughout the essay by not going into detail about information that does not need to go into depth. A few more goals are better planning of ways to set up an essay and having credible sources and more information about sources.…

When I was a child, I received unflinching support from mentors in my community, who made my childhood special. It only makes sense for me to provide back by mentoring children. Thus, my most important activity is my role in my school’s peer tutoring and mentorship program, because it allows me to not only make youth overjoyed, but also learn about my passion. Delighting others is important to me, and thus, five years ago, I applied to be a peer tutor, hoping to inspire others and provide back to my school. Every week, I am responsible for assisting my assigned tutees and others who drop in for support.…

I remember when I was 5, the first time I went to a building daily for 8 hours. I sat down on the cold blue chair. In front of me was a bin of crayons, all the colors of the rainbow: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and purple. I remember sitting in the cold room and having the freedom to draw marks on my blank sheet of paper. The dye scratching against the table, colors spreading across the canvas like the sun, rising in the early morning.…

My 30-day challenge was to draw or paint a picture every day. I was successful in completing my 30-day challenge. I think that fact that I enjoy drawing is what contributed to the success of the challenge. If I had disliked drawing then, I do believe that I would probably have a hard time completing the challenge. Also, having the goal be a SMART goal helped my complete my challenge, if I did not make the challenge specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time bound then I do believe that the challenge would be a failure.…

At the Crossroads of Failure and Success We often read of great overcoming adversity stories that people are happy and eager to share as an encouragement to those around us, but we often forget that there are many failure stories out there without the happy we turned things around ending. These stories get less attention because they don’t fit our view of how we WANT the world to be, and our nature is not to share our personally humiliating, humbling and failure moments. But I am going to share with you mine. It started about a year and a half ago when I was frustrated with my current job, not feeling like I was receiving the professional considerations I deserve, coupled with a lack of opportunity for growth, like any of us would, I went out and started searching for a new career.…
